Canaan Elementary School
January 2024
Principal's Notes
As we come back from vacation mode, I want to take a moment to remind you of a few things involving drop off & pick up.
- Drop off (K-4) is at the gym doors. Please do not drop your student off if no adult is out there.
- After 8am drop off students at the main entrance.
- Do not pass vehicles in the drop off or pick up line unless directed by a staff member to do so.
- Pick up line is to stay behind the cones until 2:30.
- Pick up line is single file until the horseshoe portion of the driveway. Then it becomes 2 lanes.
- Once in the two lanes, vehicles will alternate turns forming a single line to pick students up.
- Again, smoking or vaping in your vehicles on school property is prohibited. Please do not smoke while in the drop off or pick up lines.

A Note From Your School Nurse
When should my child stay home?
Our recommendations:
For a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. A student should be fever-free without fever-reducing medication (such as Tylenol or Motrin) for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
Vomiting and/or diarrhea. Students may return to school 24 hours after the last episode.
Suspected/untreated communicable disease (i.e. chicken pox).
Suspected/untreated bacterial infection of the eyes (i.e. conjunctivitis), nose, throat (i.e. strep throat), skin (i.e. scabies), or scalp.
Students should stay home for the first 24 hours of antibiotic therapy.
Rash with fever or behavior change, until a healthcare provider determines that these symptoms do not indicate a communicable disease.
Illness which prevents students from participating comfortably in school activities (i.e. excessive coughing or excessive fatigue).
Illness which results in greater care needs than school staff can provide without compromising the health and safety of other students.
Extra Clothing
Please send a set of extra clothing in a plastic bag labeled with your child’s name. It is important that we have an extra set of clothing in case of spills or accidents. Thank you.
Weather Gear
Hopefully, winter weather plans on showing up sometime this winter.
We want our students to be prepared for winter weather. Students are scheduled for outdoor recess unless the temperature and/or wind chill is at or below 10 degrees. Students must come to school with
- a coat
- snow pants
- boots
- gloves or mittens
- a hat or headband.
