Destination Imagination Results
This past weekend our five Destination Imagination (DI) teams competed in the State Competition at UMBC. “In DI, teams of students solve open-ended, STEAM-focused challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. They work together creatively in front of judges. In going through this process, kids learn vital life and career skills—creative thinking, critical thinking, public speaking, and collaborative problem-solving—that help them feel empowered and set them up for success in their future.”
The Rising Star team (composed of 1st and 2nd graders), the Komodo Dragons, received rave reviews, the 6th grade DItermined (Fuzz) Wonders placed 5th in the Improv Challenge, the DarIng 1-ders placed 3rd in the Scientific Challenge, the 4th grade DI Legends placed 2nd in the Engineering Challenge, and the 5th grade Eeyores placed 1st in the Fine Arts Challenge!
A big thank you goes to their team managers and parent volunteers: Lisa Beavan, Lauren Breedlove, Audrey Cosgrove, Carrianne Downey, and Charlotte Pusloskie who have been encouraging our students and hosting meetings over the past several months. We are also grateful for our appraisers: Megan Moy, Maria O'Brien, Sarah Woodward, Matt Cosgrove, and Julie Farasy. A gigantic thank you goes to Mrs. Jody Cacko who spends countless hours running the entire Destination Imagination program for our school while also managing two of our teams. Many thanks!
