Opening Update
There are so many milestones to celebrate in the journey of opening Hayden Canyon Charter— constructing a beautiful building with stunning views from every classroom, hiring a phenomenal dream-team staff, and mapping our rugged North Idaho outdoor learning
environment with miles of trails to explore. We are also opening our school in unprecedented times, and I'm sure you are wondering what the beginning of the school year will look like. Based on the current Panhandle Health Category 2 standing for Kootenai county, HCC will follow guidance to start the school year on campus in a physically distanced environment. This means that classroom will be set up allowing students to be 6 feet apart. The safest and most practical way to allow for this distancing is for students to attend school on an A/B schedule. Students on an A schedule would attend school on campus either Mon. & Wed. and students on a B schedule would attend on campus on Tues. & Thurs. While students are learning at home on their off days, they will have 2.5 hours of live interaction in their English Language Arts, Math, and CREW class times. Additional at home time will be spent practicing skills and leaning via hands-on activities and experiments. We are passionate about the expeditionary model and are working on innovative ways to bring this unique learning experience to our students in-class and at-home with minimal assistance from parents, aside from ensuring great digital citizenship. We will be sending out a survey in the next week via email and text, through our new School Messenger System, to ask which days you prefer for your child to attend, level of internet access, whether or not you will need childcare after school, and if childcare on off days is needed. We are currently trying to determine the need for childcare; we will need an enrollment of 45 students in our after school program in order to move forward. It is extremely important that you participate in this survey so we may begin building class lists, connecting our teachers with their students, and gain information to help us move forward with our childcare plans. Grade level meetings will be held in August to further discuss what this plan will look like in action, how you as a parent can support your student in this learning platform, and ways you can help out in your child's class.
Please be on the lookout for our grade level supply list, which will be added to our website early next week under the Parent Info tab.
Please note: Should we move to Category 1 we will be able to shift to all students on campus at the same time. We will let everyone know of any changes as soon as we are notified.
