WMS Friday Forecast

In schools, we spend most of our time teaching reading and math, and our other subjects. But in teaching students, we also teach generosity. This past week our students learned a lot about generosity as they saw the pile of school supplies for Ukrainian refugees in Poland grow and grow. By the end of the week, the pile was 4 feet tall and 6 feet long!

Seeing that generosity lets our students know that as a community we care about others. I feel fortunate to work in a community where kindness and generosity are valued!

A huge shout-out and a heart-felt thank you to the families of WMS who so generously supported WMS Student Council's school supply drive for Ukrainian children. Once again, you've demonstrated your kindness with action and you will make a difference to the Ukrainian refugees who are being welcomed in Poland. The Student Council appreciates you!!

Today we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day. The St. Charles Natural Resource Commission brought us a Redpointe Maple and students from Mrs. Franklin's 3rd-period science class helped us plant the tree in the back of our school near our pond. Students read about the history of Arbor Day and also read a poem about maple trees. A special thanks to the St. Charles Natural Resource Commission for donating the maple and helping us to celebrate Arbor Day 2022!

Kailey Gordon (Team 6-3) is a level Youth 2 cheerleader at Iconic Allstars in South Elgin. Kailey and her team have competed throughout the season at various competitions winning top 3 at each competition. They were awarded their Gold Bid to the US Finals in Louisville Kentucky where the team placed First in the Youth 2 division, they were level 2 champions and also Grand Champions achieving the highest score out of 184 teams performing at US Finals competition. Congratulations to Kailey and her teammates for their dedication and hard work!

We are working with our PTO to plan our 8th-grade end-of-year celebrations. We have three fun events planned!

• On Tuesday, May 24th we will host an 8th-grade Dance and Social in the early evening. We will need a large number of volunteers to make this dance successful, so look for information soon! Our theme is "Hollywood!" There will be a $10 charge for this event, though all students on free and reduced lunch will receive a complimentary ticket. More information to follow in late April

• On Wednesday, May 25th in the morning, we will hold an 8th-grade awards ceremony at the Norris Cultural Arts Center. All parents are welcome, but we specifically invite those whose children will be receiving an award.

• On Wednesday, May 25 our PTO will host a lunch for our 8th-grade students. Again, we will need plenty of volunteers for this event, so look for information soon.

We have a student working on a web project and needs a Windows PC. Is there anyone who may have a Windows PC that they are not using that they may donate to this student? If you have one to donate, please email Tim Loversky at tim.loversky@d303.org.

Returning Student Registration for 2022-2023 is once again an online format. All acknowledgments and authorizations are contained in a single electronic, online registration form. Please complete this by June 1st!

The form is located in the Parents/Community menu of the District website and on our Wredling website under Parents/Registration Materials. Parents can sign into the Returning Student Online Registration form using their Home Access Center (HAC) credentials, select individual students, and complete their registration.

Registration fees for all students will not be billed in PushCoin until July 1, 2022. A 2022-2023 district fee waiver application will be available on the District 303 website in July, accessible from the Parent/Community menu, for families who may qualify for a fee waiver and are not directly certified by the state.

State legislation requires that all Illinois children in Sixth Grade will have a dental examination. A licensed dentist must perform the examination, and he or she shall sign the form. Dental offices should have the form available, but it is also available online at www.d303.org under Departments, then Health Services, then “Health Documents and Forms”. Each 6th grade student must present proof of a dental examination by a dentist prior to May 15, 2022. The exam must be dated within 18 months prior to May 15, 2022. If your child has had an exam already, you can ask your dentist to complete the form for the exam.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has established a waiver for children who show undue burden or lack of access to a dentist. Parents or legal guardians who object to the dental examinations on religious grounds shall present to the school a signed, detailed statement of the objection.

The deadline is quickly approaching! Please submit this if you have not already done so. If you have any questions, please contact the WMS nurses at 331-228-3704.

Any current 6th or 7th grader interested in playing football next year should attend an informational meeting and short workout session next Thursday, May 5 after school in the cafeteria at 3:45. The meeting will last for 15 minutes and then be followed by 30 minutes of conditioning and drills to prepare players for what pract\ice will be like when the season starts. Please wear athletic attire. Cleats are not required. Make sure you have arranged for a ride home at 4:30pm If you have any questions please see Coach Kohler.

When it comes to issues that concern students and/or school safety: “If you see something, say something - immediately”. On a school day during staffed hours (7:30-4:00), the student, parent, or community member should call the school and/or seek an administrator ASAP for prompt action. If this information emerges outside of the school day, please call 911 immediately. The safety and wellbeing of our Wredling family are always our top priority!
