Top 5 Back-to-School tips for students
1. Get Plenty of Sleep: Ensure you have a consistent bedtime routine and get enough sleep each night. A well-rested student is better prepared for the school day. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children 6 to 12 years of age sleep 9 to 12 hours per 24 hours on a regular basis to promote optimal health.
2. Eat a Healthy Breakfast: Start your day with a nutritious breakfast to fuel your body and mind for learning. A balanced meal can improve focus and concentration. And in case you didn't know, every school in the district offers a free, nutritious breakfast. Take a look at your school's daily schedule for details.
3. Be Punctual: Arrive at school on time every day. Punctuality is an important habit that sets a positive tone each school day.
4. Ask for Help: If you're struggling with a subject or have questions, don't be afraid to ask your teacher or instructional assistant for help. The Phoenix-Talent School District has incredible educators at every school and they want to help you succeed.
5. Respect Your Teachers and Peers: Treat your teachers and classmates with kindness and respect. A positive classroom environment promotes better learning.
Top 5 Back-to-School tips for parents
1. Communication: Establish open communication with your child's teachers and school. Attend parent-teacher conferences, stay informed about your child's progress and read those school newsletters and Classtag messages.
2. Healthy Meals: Plan nutritious meals and snacks for your child. A balanced diet can improve concentration and overall health.
3. Sleep Schedule: Yes, we're repeating ourselves here, but only because it's very important. Ensure your child is getting enough sleep each night according to their age and needs. A well-rested child is better prepared for school.
4. Homework Environment: Set up a quiet and organized study space at home where your child can complete homework and assignments. The less distractions, the better.
5. Encourage Reading and Physical Activity: Foster a love for reading by providing a variety of age-appropriate books and encouraging daily reading, both for pleasure and for academic purposes. Also, encourage physical activity and playtime outside of school hours. Regular exercise is important for a child's physical and mental health.
