February 25, 2024
Week of February 25, 2024
Dear Families,
Congratulations to our Class of 2024 Academic Team for their stellar third place finish in the 7th Annual Leo High School Black History Bowl! We are so proud of them!
Wednesday, February 28th is a Kind Shirt Day. Scholars should wear their green kind shirts with their proper uniform bottoms. We grow closer to God with every kind act!
Our Black History Program is this Thursday, February 29th at 10 AM. Don't miss this beautiful celebration of Black History through music, poetry, and dance. Doors will open at 9:30.
Friday, March 1st is a professional learning day for our teachers. We are offering no-cost childcare from 6:30 AM - 5:15 PM. The day will include fun and engaging activities while supervised by our amazing staff. Uniforms are not required, but gym shoes are. Use this form to sign up so that we have enough coverage. Breakfast, lunch and snack are provided, but you may send lunch, if desired. Please remember, no nuts or nut products.
Our annual Climate, Culture and Catholic Identity Survey is now open! We invite all school families to participate in the UChicago Impact Parent Survey. Your feedback is crucial for meaningful analysis of what we are doing that is working well and where we can continue to improve. We value your input! Click here to take the survey before March 22. https://survey.5-essentials.org/.../survey/parent/login/.
Are you registered yet for the 2024-2025 school year? Over 140 students are! Use this form. We will fill up again, so don't delay! The registration fee through 3/16 is $35/student. Once registered and the fee is paid, families will receive a voucher for Martinelli's for a gym t-shirt and shorts. There is a referral incentive for current families. Receive a tuition credit of $500 ($250 in January and $250 in May) for the enrolled new family.
Please check your FACTS account to ensure you are making payments. We need to keep the accounts up to date so that the school can meet its obligations. On Monday, reminder notices are being sent home for those families who have tax agreements.
Every day, students (PK - 8) must be in gym shoes. If boots were worn, due to inclement weather, gym shoes must be sent. Our uniform is mandatory - please be respectful.
The calendar is on our website. It is linked here as well! Additionally, please join our Bloomz page. Also, download the school app. It is the hub for all school information; from the app, you can get to PowerSchool, complete the absence form, go to FACTS, and go to Bloomz. There is typically a banner message on the app with information. Students with phones should download the school app.
The calendar for the 2024-2025 school year is complete. There is an image below and you can access it here. Please don't confuse it with this year's calendar. It is on the new school letterhead, so it looks a bit different.
Did you know that we have a used shoe and clothing box in the parking lot by the garage? As you do some pre-spring cleaning, please use the box. Trees are planted every time we have our box emptied.
We will have a 5-week summer program running June 17 - July 19 (no class on Juneteenth or 4th of July). We will begin registration in March. This program is for rising PK3-5th graders and others by invitation. For those with Action for Children, the cost is your copay plus field trip fees. For those without AFC, the cost is $500/child plus field trip fees.
Children who are sick MUST stay home. There are many viruses active right now, including COVID, RSV and the Flu. We understand it is sometimes hard for working families, however, we have a shared responsibility to our community to limit the spread of illness. Please fill out the absence form on the app or send an email. On time School attendance is required every day unless sick.
Please check your child's blue folder daily and remind your child/ren of the school expectations. We begin each day (except full school Liturgy days) with a community assembly, as it sets the tone for the day. We are better together. Between 7:40 - 8:00 AM, students will enter school at door 2. We begin at 7:45 and teachers are taking attendance in assembly.
In the event of inclement weather, please check Bloomz, emergencyclosingcenter.com, and the school app. All will list whether school is delayed, closed or open. I will also send alert notifications through both school platforms.
Thank you for choosing Academy of St. Benedict the African for your family.
Warmly,
Mrs. Farrand

Tuition Payments & Action for Children
While I wish we could offer school without tuition and fees, we can't. Please work to get the accounts up to date. We all need to do our part.
On Monday, reminder notices are being sent home for those families who have tax agreements. For accounts that have not had any payments made, tax agreements have been set up. Notices will be sent on Monday.
Please get in touch with me if you have concerns.
