Principal's Message
Happy Holidays!
It is difficult to believe that we are in the final days of the first semester of this school year. The days, weeks, and months have simply flown by! I am proud of the hard work and effort that the students put forth each day. The teachers and support staff work hard every day to provide our students with outstanding learning experiences.
As the year is quickly coming to a close, it is important to spend some time in reflection. Reflection allows us to identify and appreciate positive experiences and better identify ways that we can improve. It can also be useful when we have more challenging experiences; helping us to process and learn from them. I would encourage you to take time with your students over the holidays to reflect on 2023. What are some things that went really well? What are some things that could be improved? Follow up by working with your students to set some goals for the upcoming year. Leave the discussion wide open - reflect on school, extra-curricular activities, and family experiences. Take time to celebrate the many successes and plan for any upcoming challenges!
Wishing all of the CGES families peace and joy as you celebrate the upcoming holidays! Thankful for the many successes of that 2023 has brought and looking forward to the many challenges that lie ahead in 2024!
All the best!
Mr. Buckler
AP's Announcements
Hello, Center Grove Elementary Families!
We’ve reached the final stretch of the 2023 school year and I couldn’t be prouder of our students and staff here at CGE! Together, we’ve achieved tremendous growth and made remarkable progress during the first half of the school year. I encourage you to take a moment with your child/children and look back on how far they have come and what they have accomplished thus far this school year!
Also, let’s finish the last few weeks of school strong! Please talk with your child/children about making good, safe, and positive choices here at school. We all want to enjoy all the fun and exciting events and activities that are planned up until the last day before break.🙂
Lastly.. ‘Tis the season for everyone! Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Chrismukkah, Yule, or Kwanzaa.. I wish you a wonderful holiday season. Enjoy the winter break with your family and friends. Please be safe and stay warm!
My heartfelt gratitude for entrusting us here at CGES with your child’s education!

Counselor's Corner
Hello!
Thanksgiving came and went before I even got the chance to tell you all how thankful I am for this CGES family. Your generosity in all things; whether it be donations, sponsoring a child, volunteering, or continuous support of what we do here has not gone unnoticed. This is truly a special place to be, and I am honored to be a part of it.
A quick reminder as we approach Christmas break, it is easy to assume that everyone is looking forward to some time away, but please also remember that many kids do really well with some structure. It is important to keep in mind that while they are at school, nearly every minute of their day is planned for them, and it is no surprise to hear how busy they are. While it may be true that most kids are resilient and can “go with the flow”, the research shows that providing structure such as consistent bedtime routines, “jobs” or chores to help around the house, and time for them to have some downtime can have an amazing impact on your time together. Some suggestions include having them write or read the grocery list while you shop, have them read a book to a younger sibling, their pet, or a favorite stuffed animal, cut out snowflakes to decorate your front door, or break out a favorite board game. Whatever you (or they) choose, let yourself truly enjoy it. It’s easy to forget that sometimes our kids just want US…it doesn’t matter what we do with them; they just want our attention. Take time to make memories, laugh, and celebrate. I promise that it will be worth it.
Happy Holidays!

Good Cheer Food Drive
CGES will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Good Cheer Fund. The Good Cheer Fund provides meals to Johnson County residents during the Holiday season. The Food Drive will continue until the morning of December 15th. If you prefer to send a monetary donation, please send cash or checks payable to the Good Cheer Fund. Monetary donations will count as two items per dollar toward classroom totals. The classroom with the most items collected will receive a pizza party. (one winner K-2 & on winner 3-5) Our school goal is 6,000 items for everyone to receive a special treat!
Thank you for your support!

Did you know?
The winter solstice is the day we have our shortest day and our longest night. Typically, it falls on Dec. 21 or Dec. 22. This year the solstice falls on Thursday, December 21st.
The winter solstice is rooted in an astronomical event. During this time, the sun is at its lowest point in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere. This means the Northern Hemisphere is tilted farthest away from the sun, which is why it’s the shortest day of the year. After the winter solstice, the Northern Hemisphere starts to tilt toward the sun again, which is why the days get longer.
Yearbook Contest Winners
Each year our fifth grade students are invited to submit drawings for the annual yearbook. This year we had almost fifty outstanding entries.
The office staff narrows the entries to ten and then each fifth grade student votes! The winner will be the cover and the next four with the most votes will be on the back cover.
This year's winner is Taylin Donaldson!
The following will have their artwork on the back cover: Sophia Gagen & Emily Waltz, Bailey DeSantis & Cora Drake, Avery Kate Dickinson, and Olivia Webb.
Congratulations to these students and each student who participated!
Planetarium Visit
Please note that the Planetarium will visit CGES on Monday, February 26th and Tuesday, February 27th which is a change from the school calendar that was shared earlier this year. Mark your calendars and more details about this event will be coming in the new few weeks! Excited for this experience for our students!
