Major Building Improvement Announcement!
On November 8th, the District 11 Board of Education approved a building improvement project for Howbert Elementary.
Beginning in the fall of 2024, Howbert will have a new HVAC system to include air conditioning throughout the school!
The project will begin in late February/early March. For the last few months of this school year, a portion of the main playground will be closed so the contracted company can begin the project and have it completed by the end of the summer (2024).
More details will be forthcoming as the contracted company and our area project manager work with the school to plan the work timeline.
Please Welcome to the Howbert Team!
We are excited to announce that Nicole Overbay will be joining the Howbert team as a Special Education paraprofessional.
She is a parent of a student that attends Howbert and is coming with previous experience in educational support.
Nicole will be a fantastic support for students.

The survey closes on November 17th.
5 Essential Parent Survey
Please take some time to complete the 5 Essential Parent Survey
This completely anonymous, 20-minute survey is designed to give your principal, teachers, and staff a better understanding of how you feel about your school, the school district, and how connected you feel to your child's learning. This information is used by the superintendent, principals, and teachers. It will help us know where we need to improve communication and engagement with you so that we can all be on the same team to support your child. Your name and contact information will never be used and results will be reported directly to the school. We really appreciate your time to help us become better at partnering with you and supporting your child.
Please complete a survey for each of your children that attend Howbert.
WE CURRENTLY HAVE A 22% RESPONSE RATE

School Safety Reminders for 2nd Quarter
Howbert families,
School safety is a shared responsibility between students, staff, and families. Here are a few reminders on how we can ensure the safety of all during drop-off and pick-up. Thanks!
- Only drop off students while parked in a designated parking area or within the kiss-n-go area
- When backing out of a parking space or merging back onto the road from the kiss-n-go area, use caution and look in all directions
- Use the vehicle's blinker to indicate which direction you are proceeding
- Keep the handicap parking spots open for those vehicles with a handicap license plate or placard
- Make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop before opening the door
- Walk in the crosswalk and wait for the crossing guard to be in position
We are currently hiring for a Special Education paraprofessional
This is a 7-hour position five days a week.
The special education paraprofessional Assists Special Education/Regular Education teachers to meet the needs of children with special needs with academics, behavior modification, personal hygiene and /or physical/emotional conditions.

You are also welcome to contact the Howbert front office if you have further questions.
Social and Emotional Learning: Inclusiveness
What are some things you do to show inclusiveness?
Invite people in your household to do things with you - play a game, watch a show together, take a walk, prepare a meal.
Share something you are working on with someone else and ask them for their opinion or advice.
If you are going somewhere that you know a family member would also enjoy, invite them along.
If a family member shares important news with you, be there for them without judgement.
Click on this week's Kindness at Home newsletter to learn more about supporting inclusiveness.
Fabric Donations Needed
Do you have abandoned sewing projects lurking around your craft room? Mrs. Hamilton in art class would LOVE to take donations of fabric for upcoming lessons. You can bring them to the Howbert office and Ms. Shanda or Ms. Amanda will get them to her. Thank you!
