Tartan DECA International Career Development Conference
Four Tartan DECA students recently competed at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida. With over 21,000 students in attendance and 40 events, Tartan's Kyle Nilson ended up in the Top 10 with his Business Growth Plan. Yupheng Lee and Kayleen Xiong competed in School-based Enterprise, representing the Tartan School Store, and learned that a full-service retail store (school supplies, spirit wear, and snacks) like ours is very rare. Congratulations to North students Connor Uecher, Erin Sellie, Dakota Ningen, Kyson Cha, Emmet Johnson, Kasara Williams, Macey Weinmann, Christopher Kee, Evelyn Lienke, Marianne Coreas, Mamie Francis, Jack Sonneck, Caleb Dimler, Gerraldine Cushman and Brianna Walstrom for their achievements.
2023 Congressional Art Competition Winner
Each year US Congress members hold a Congressional Art Competition for their district's high school students. Congresswoman Betty McCollum of the 4th district held her exhibit in the Schmidt Artist Lofts (in the old Schmidt Brewing on W. 7th in St Paul) last night May 3rd.
North High had an excellent showing this year with nearly half the pieces hanging being from our talented North High students. This year Evelyn Lienke won the 2nd place prize with her pen and ink drawing titled Electric Motor Alley: Part 2. Her work will be displayed at Congresswoman McCollum's Washington D.C. office for the next year! Congratulations Evelyn!

Governor Tim Walz recently signed the bill to provide universal free school meals for all students, regardless of household income. The new program will begin in the upcoming 2023-24 school year.
In the meantime, families that currently do not qualify for free or reduced meals must continue to pay for school meals for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Information
If your child is approved for Educational Benefits (free or reduced-priced school meals), they may be eligible for P-EBT benefits of $8.10 for each day they were absent due to a COVID-19-related illness.

Discounted At-Home Internet
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides eligible households a discount of up to $30 per month off their internet bills (or up to $75 per month for households living on Tribal lands), as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 off an eligible connected device like a laptop, desktop computer or tablet. In many cases, households can get high-speed internet without paying a dime by choosing a fully covered internet plan.
A household is eligible to participate in the ACP if a child in the household receives free or reduced-price school meals. Therefore, under the ACP rules, every household with a child attending a school participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program is eligible for ACP benefits.
Households can learn more and apply for the ACP at GetInternet.gov.
