Board Highlights (just the facts)
At the June 22 regular board meeting held via Zoom:
Superintendent's Report – Superintendent Jeff Snell shared the results of our Reopening Schools survey of students, staff, and families which we conducted last week. At a high level, he reported that the majority of all groups desire to return to school in the fall and would oppose full-time virtual learning.
Jeff also updated the board on planning currently underway to reopen our schools this fall. He talked about the new technical challenges for opening schools such as refining procedures and protocols for cleaning and transportation. Jeff also shared the challenge of creating the best possible learning delivery model for students that complies with safety guidance from our state agencies. All options will continue to be considered as we have seen how quickly things can change this spring. Based on the state parameters for social distancing, our space and class sizes at the elementary level (preschool to 5th grade) allow us the opportunity to plan for full time, in-person instruction for elementary students. In order to meet the parameters at the secondary level (grades 6-12), it is more likely that there would need to be some type of an A-B schedule where students would be divided into two groups. Each group would attend in-person at least two days during a regular school week and have remote learning experiences for the other days. He also shared that if they preferred, there would also be a full-time remote learning option for families.
"Even though we don’t have all of the specifics yet, and as we’ve seen in the past three months that a lot can change quickly, I wanted to share focus areas for our planning work. We’ll be providing weekly updates to staff and the community starting the week of July 13. Our goal is to have plans finalized in the first week of August," Jeff stated.
Much more detail was shared in the Town Hall held on Wednesday this week.
Budget Report - Business Services Director Jasen McEathron gave a monthly budget report and a preliminary overview of next year's budget. He shared that budget assumptions include stable enrollment, no change to our $2.15 levy rate, and a 1% decline in our regionalization funding.

Natresa Barsness
Natresa, who is a health room assistant at Woodburn Elementary, has volunteered (or been on standby) every single week for meal delivery. She is the only person who has shown up for kids so consistently, and she is a delight!
We have had 86 employees volunteer to help serve our students since our schools closed. District employees have provided nearly 70,000 meals during the closure and the staff who stepped up to make this happen should be celebrated. Great work, Natresa!
Genevieve Fend
Genevieve has generously volunteered her time and talents to help create a video for Mr. Cortes’ Special Education classroom. She truly demonstrates student leadership and she unselfishly gives her time to provide a gift to these students and their families. She exemplifies what it means to be a Camas Papermaker student.
That’s a lot of service!

Tyler Forner signs professional contract with the San Francisco Giants
Tyler Forner’s plan for his senior year at Camas High School was to be a state champion on the football field and a state champion on the baseball diamond.
After achieving his goal on the gridiron, the coronavirus pandemic prevented the second half of Forner’s plan from coming to fruition.

Do you or someone you know have an incoming kindergartener?
Well, now is time to register for fall! We are so very sad that we're not having our normal Kindergarten Roundup events in our schools this month. However, we're tentatively planning for kindergarten orientation in August where families will meet teachers and staff, learn about the curriculum, and take a ride on a real school bus!
