Town of Sunnyvale - July 29, 2022
Collins Road maintenance
Collins Road was originally scheduled to be paved on Thursday, July 28, however it was rescheduled for today, July 29.
The Town has made the decision to completely shut Collins Road down until paving is complete due to unsafe speeds becoming a safety hazard for construction crews. Detour signage is still in place.
Paving is expected to be complete this evening (July 29) and Collins Road will fully reopen, once complete.
Sunnyvale Police Department launches Citizens Police Academy
The Sunnyvale Police Department has officially launched a Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) for citizens who want to experience a hands-on learning environment. In the CPA, you will be provided information from Police instructors on many different topics that are involved in the day to day operations.
- CPA is FREE!
- 14 week program; The program begins Sept. 15 and will run through December. Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
- Available to all who live or work in the Town of Sunnyvale.
Registration is now open for those wanting to join CPA. For additional information and/or to fill out an application, visit www.townofsunnyvale.org/CPA .
Completed applications may be returned in person or by mail to the Police Department - 364 Long Creek Rd., Sunnyvale, TX 75182 or via email - police@townofsunnyvale.org.

July 25 Town Council meeting recap
Introductions:
Austin Guthrie was introduced as the Town's newest employee. Austin serves in the Parks department as a Parks Maintenance Technician. Please help us welcome Austin to the Town!
Recognitions:
1. The EastTex Regional Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was recognized for their continued support to the Town of Sunnyvale and for their volunteer services during the 2022 Sunnyfest event. Pictured is Program Coordinator Mike Ross, alongside Town Council, Town Manager Jeff Jones, Fire Chief Doug Kendrick, and Police Chief Andrew Hawkes. Thank you EastTex Regional CERT for all that you do for the Sunnyvale community.
2. The Town's Public Works department was recognized for their hard work, dedication, and attention to the recent water main breaks that occurred on July 10, 2022. Crews attended to the breaks for nearly 12 hours in 105° heat on that day. Pictured is Town Council, Town Manager Jeff Jones, Public Works Director Bryan Creed, Public Works Superintendent William Kearney, and Public Works staff members Jose Ramirez, Zachary Guthrie, David Fields, Darron Osborn II, and Paulo Padron. Please join us in thanking these employees for all that they do for the Town.

Burn ban in effect
A burn ban is currently in effect for Dallas County.
Sunnyvale Fire/Rescue Department has halted the issuance of burn permits until further notice.
Recreational burning is not recommended until an improvement in weather conditions is seen. Please take caution with fire pits to avoid blowing embers and refrain from leaving fire pits unattended.
