Hello Patriot Families and Friends,

Thank you from the bottom of my very happy heart for coming out during the Trunk R Treat event. It warmed me up to see all the now middle schoolers and all of my current parents and scholars. Please check out some of our November family fun events.

• Parking lot safety. Our School Governance Council is working on hiring a patrol officer to monitor the safety of our morning drop-off. Please be mindful of students and parents walking in the parking and we want everyone safe. Starting after the November break there will be changes to the flow of morning traffic. Please preview the map below. We ask that all parents to use the drop-off lane, or walk students into our front doors. Safety is our main concern.
• We are still looking for PTA members. Check out our school website for sign-up directions.
• Our Thanksgiving Luncheon is coming up and we need volunteers to help serve and decorate. If you are available, please complete the volunteer questionnaire and call the school with the area and dates you would like to help.
• We are still searching for just the right Assistant Principal to join our team. Please be on the lookout for our announcement. Please feel free to email me your top priorities in the perfect match for our team.
• Check the schedule below for our Veterans' breakfast and our Thanksgiving Luncheon.
• Remember November 7th is a remote learning day, due to elections.

Liberty Point is proud to introduce our newest Patriot Ms. Tawanda Darden. Ms. Daren is a member of the Union City community and has served as room parent, long term sub, math teacher, and math instructional coach at Love T. Nolan elementary for over 20 years. Your opinion matters! Tell us about your experiences with the district and your school by filling out the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) Georgia Parent Survey required by the Georgia Department of Education. This survey provides a foundation for your school’s Climate Star rating score and is part of the CCRPI. These climate scores are an important indicator of culture and climate within each school in the district. Each school will receive a 1-5 star rating, with five stars representing an excellent school climate, and one star representing a school climate most in need of improvement. Georgia Student Health Survey

The Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE) requires all public schools to participate in their Georgia Student Health Survey. To see the GA DOE informational website click here. The survey has two parts: one for parents and one for students in grades 3 -12. Each school must have a 75% participation rate on the student portion of the survey. Schools failing to meet the 75% student participation rate will score 0.00 points on the school's CCRPI survey calculation under the survey portion of the School Climate Star Rating.

This GA DOE developed survey asks questions that are covered by the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA). For more information about PPRA, click here. PPRA requires that schools provide parents/guardians with advanced notice of student participation, the option to preview the student survey, and the ability for parents/guardians to opt their students out of any surveys that include PPRA protected areas. If you would like to opt your student out of participation in this survey, please email Ms. Lewis at LewisTL@fultonschools.org requesting that your student not participate in Georgia Health Survey prior to December 1st, 2023.

The Infinite Campus portals - provides access to information for all enrolled students in their household. Information includes grades, attendance, assignments, transportation and school announcements.

Patriot families,

Students have a range of accidents during the school day from pizza spills, mud from recess, or misjudging a restroom break. In order to help students stay clean and prevent parents from having to miss a day of work we would like your help. Our clinic aide Mrs. Whitley has new uniforms, socks, and underwear in all sizes, but her supply has depleted. Please help her with her supplies by donating new uniform shirts and pants, socks, and underwear for both girls and boys to help scholars change clothes and quickly return to class. All donations may be dropped off in our clinic next to the main office.

School safety remains a top priority for us in Fulton County Schools. We take maintaining a safe and secure learning environment very serious. I expect all Liberty Point students, parents and staff members act in a manner that keeps everyone safe. I strongly encourage all parents to review the Code of Conduct, and speak with your child about his/her behavior. When incidence of misconduct arise, consequences will be assigned based on the infraction as detailed within the Code of Conduct.

In addition to your teacher's weekly newsletters, our outstanding instructional coaches will send out weekly strategies for your to work on with your children at home. We hope you find these informational and supportive!

Sound Walls are Here!

A sound wall is just what it sounds like- a place on a wall where you can organize sounds-spellings that different letter combinations can make. It's similar to a word wall, but better! Sound cards display phonics patterns that help students learn to read in an organized, or systemic, manner.

Children can show their phonemic awareness through several activities. As an adult reader, the key thing for you to remember is that when you’re working on phonemic awareness, your child should be listening to and pronouncing phonemes based on what they hear, not based on the letters they see on a page.

Try out the activities below with your child.

• Recognize which words in a set of words begin with the same sound. Say something like this: “Listen to me say the words ‘sit,’ ‘sun,’ and ‘soft.’ Now you say them. What sound do they all share at the beginning?” (Answer: /s/)
• Isolate and say the first or last sound in a word. Try something like, “Say the word ‘dog.’ What is the beginning sound of ‘dog’?” (Answer: /d/) Then try, “Say the word ‘book.’ What is the ending sound of ‘book’?” (Answer: /k/)
• Combine or blend separate sounds in a word to say the word. Try this: “Say the sounds /s/ /u/ /n/. What word do they make when you combine them?” (Answer: “sun”) “Now say the sounds: /n/ /igh/ /t/. What word do they make when you combine them?” (Answer: “night”)
• Break or segment a word into its separate sounds. Say something like, “Listen to the word ‘cat.’ What sounds are in the word ‘cat’?” (Answer: /c/ /a/ /t/)
• Substitute sounds in a word. Revisit some of the words you’ve explored together already, and try something like this: “Say the word ‘night.’ Instead of the /n/ sound, say an /l/ sound. What word is it?” (Answer: “light”) “Now say the word ‘lit.’ Instead of the /i/ sound say an /o/ sound. What word is it?” (Answer: “lot”) “Last one! Say the word ‘sun.’ Instead of the sound /n/, say the sound /b/. What word is it?” (Answer: “sub”) This is a harder skill, so it’s okay to be working toward this goal.

Greetings Parents!

We have complete just over 1/4 of our school year and everything mathematics is trending upwards! So far, all grade levels have met or exceeded their unit assessment goals and the math team would like thank you for your continued efforts at home. We are confident that our students will continue to show mathematical growth throughout the school year. One way you can help show this growth is to have real-world mathematics conversations with your students. We are ALL good math students because we use mathematics in our everyday lives. Using a good conversation starter is a great way to begin a real-world mathematical discussion. Some examples are:

• How far do you think it is from our house to school?
• How old do you think _____________ is? Why?
• Do you think it takes longer to drive to ________ or to drive to ___________?

Any question you can think of that generates a mathematics discussion benefits your student's mathematical thinking.

The Counseling Dept. would like to thank all of those who participated with us during the many events in October. Red Ribbon Week, Bullying Prevention Week, Unity Day and all the other small celebrations in October were a great success.

The Classroom Guidance Lesson for the month of November will be focusing on Responsibility. We encourage all of our scholars to be responsible scholars while they are here, at home, and in their community. This means doing what's right and taking ownership of their actions, even in the face of adversity, as well as when they think no one is looking.

We are proud to partner with Chris180, one of the area's premiere mental health, child welfare and family service organizations, in empowering families and helping children overcome difficulties they may face. If you feel that your child may benefit from a deeper therapeutic interaction, please contact me for more information regarding their free services for our scholars.

Each month our outstanding TAG teacher, Ms. Maddox is excited to bring you monthly creative activities!

Parents and families can use these strategies at home with your child to help build their creativity skills. Choose at least 1 activity weekly from each of the creative processes to complete.

These skills will directly support students in developing their creative sides!
