8B LEADS FIRST PRAYER & FLAG
Every other Monday throughout the school year, all students will gather on Monday mornings for Prayer and Flag in the school gymnasium. Classes will take a turn leading our school through Prayer and Flag. This is a school community event and parents are always welcome to join us! Parents will ring the bell through the office at 7:55am (to gain entry to the gym).
On August 25th, the 8B classroom led the first prayer and flag for the new school year. Our students learned about the lives of St. Augustine and St. John the Baptist. Thank you to 8B for your enthusiastic performance and your detailed presentation! Our next Prayer and Flag will be on Monday September 11th and will be lead by 8A. Please make a calendar note to join us!

5TH TO 8TH GRADE BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT DATE CHANGE
SVS Back-to-School Night for 5th to 8th grade has been moved to Wednesday, September 6th from 5:00 PM - 6:30PM. This is a parent only evening. This movement was due to a conflict with BGHS's Back-to-School Night. We apologize for the inconvenience.
IF YOU ARE LATE FOR SCHOOL...
School starts promptly at 7:45 am for Gr. 4-8 students and 8:00 am for PK through 3rd grade.
We understand! Traffic happens occasionally... backpacks are left at home...alarms forget to chime.
However, if your child is consistently late or picked up early, they are missing valuable instruction time. Please consult our school website and Parent-Student Handbook concerning attendance policies.
On a Mass day, students who are tardy will need to be walked into the office, drop off backpack, and walked by parents to church. Mass starts at 8:15 AM on Wednesdays.
DISMISSAL PROCEDURE
Dear Parents,
Parents in grades PK-3 will be permitted onto the campus to pick up their children. Please park in the church lot, the East gate will be open at 2:30 and 2:40pm. All parents need to carry their family placard to show the staff member assigned to the gate. Any family that forgets this will need to go to the office for ID verification before gaining access to the campus. Thank you and please reach out with any questions your family may have.
Sincerely,
Dr. Katie Kiss
Principal
Mr. Mertzman
Vice Principal

DISMISSAL & PARKING LOT REMINDERS
NO LEFT TURN ON EASTERN:
Under NO circumstance should any car make a left onto Eastern from the school campus. Some of our families are making the decision to turn left 🤨. There is a NO LEFT TURN SIGN! Turning left is dangerous and causes a stoppage of traffic. In addition, please do not make a right onto Eastern and then make a u-turn in the school zone. This is illegal while children are present and school zone sign is lit.
STAFF PARKING LOT:
The staff lot on Eastern Ave is for handicap parking during drop off and pick up only. You may not park in a handicapped space without disabled persons plates or placards issued by a government agency. The visitor parking in the staff parking lot is not for drop-off and/or pick-up.
LOOP PARKING LOT:
The numbered staff parking in the loop is for staff members only. Kids are running unattended through the loop and down the walkway to the church parking lot. Students need to stay with their parents at all times. There are too many cars in the area and children can get hurt. Teachers are busy connecting students to cars and they have voiced concern over the children running unattended. Let's all work together to keep our students and families safe!
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello to you all. I hope you’re doing well. I’ve been thinking about how to win with kids where discipline is concerned. Physical discipline, like hitting and spanking, tends to produce aggressive behavior in children and they often use this type of discipline as a way to resolve their own conflicts. Unfortunately, this often takes place with their peers or family members and I’m sure we all want our kids to have healthy conflict resolution tools in their toolbelts.
It is always a parental WIN if we can structure a situation so a child is EARNING privileges (screentime) by good behavior, rather than losing them as a penalty. Children are very incentive oriented and it is an easy way to build in the concept of earning privilege over expecting privilege. Look for positive behaviors to praise and reward your children and they will quickly want to repeat good behavior! It’s inevitable that at some point we will have a “bad cop” moment when we have to say “no” or set a boundary your child is uncomfortable with – but this goes with the territory and it does NOT make you a bad parent. As parents we should build in the rewards instead of responding with punishment.
Celebrating the child who can regulate behavior is better than punishing the child who cannot. It also helps us to feel effective and impactful as a parent.
I hope this helps!
Your friendly campus counselor,
Monica 🙂
