Mrs. Michels Weekly Updates
Let's make it a great week!
Hello Hamilton Families!
January 8, 2024
Happy New Year!! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and was able to get rested and recharged for the second half of the year. I loved the time that I spent with my family and enjoyed some relaxation time, now I am ready to get back to school and support our students and staff in continuing the great work we have seen this year. I look forward to seeing all of our students tomorrow! Let's make it a great start to 2024!!
Our attendance saw a bit of a dip in December, please help your child to have the best chance at a successful year by making sure they are at school every day unless they are too ill to attend. If a student has a fever or vomiting they need to be 24 hours fever/vomit free before coming to school. Unfortunately, I do hear students saying they did not come to school because of a head ache, they were tired, had a hair appointment, spent the night at friend or family members house etc. None of those reasons are valid reasons for an absence. Missing more than 10 days of school put students and parents at risk of truancy proceedings, below grade level performance, and higher rate of drop out when they reach high school. In short, attendance matters! We need to work together to make sure our students are at school every day! If your child does need to be absent make sure to call the office to report it. I thank you in advance for your support!

Friendly Reminders
- Remember to plan ahead for Michigan weather. Give yourself extra time to get to the school if the roads are slippery and time to go slow and careful in the parking lot! I have noticed a number of people driving irresponsibly and unsafe in the parking lot. Please keep safety first and drive slowly. If you are getting out of your car, it needs to be in a parking place, NOT along the curb. Also, students may NOT cross the parking lot without an adult with them. If you want to just drop off, pull up to the curb and let them out from the drop off line next to the curb.
- January 16 our next NWEA testing window opens. Attendance during this time is extra important so students are able to test with their class and don't have to miss out on other activities to do make up tests. Please make sure your child is at school on time for the whole day so they are able to do their personal best!
- Students go out side for recess when the real feel temperature is 20 degrees and above. Please help your child dress accordingly.
- With the wet weather please make sure your child has a dry pair of shoes to change into once they get in class for the day.
- Our pantry is open! If you need some additional food or hygiene items please call and set up a time to visit our pantry.

Some of the services they provide are: basic need assistance, access to over 700 local resources, Laundry Assistance Program and material items for those unable to afford them (emergency toiletries, socks/underwear, hats/gloves/scarves, etc.) They are also able to supply school supplies and backpacks year round for any WWCS student. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance by filling out a simple form. Attendance
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.
Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.
Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.
There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.
You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.
You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and productive learning environment for all our students.
