Principal Message
Greetings Whitford Families.
There are so many amazing things happening here every day at Whitford. In the past weeks, we have completed Outdoor School (non-COVID style) for our 6th graders, Choir concerts, field trips, science projects, 3-D design and development, mastery of integers, and much, much more. Your students… Our students… are amazing people are doing and learning amazing things. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to help shape and influence your children.
There are so many exciting things on the horizon for Whitford. Coming very soon will be the beginnings of bond funds supported by Beaverton voters that will help Whitford begin to modernize with replacement of old furniture and equipment. Additionally, in anticipation of Whitford turning 60th anniversary next year, we are beginning the process of rebranding and re-visioning our school, our purpose, our role, and what we are all about. There will be opportunities for students, staff and parents alike to contribute to this process. We invite you to engage in this important work for your kids AND for the future students of our school community.
As we approach a very welcome winter break, we wish to extend to you all a very happy holidays and an excellent new year. We hope that this vacation is filled with excellent memories.
Students Re-Designing Cafeteria through BSD Modernization Project
We have begun to do some planning for our BSD Bond modernization projects. One of the projects is getting brand new cafeteria tables and getting rid of the old, broken down, and heavy tables. Ms. Otermat's 7th & 8th Grade technology classes have used the Design Process to identify which style of tables would be the best fit for our cafeteria and to allow 300+ kids to eat at one time.
Students begun by researching by identifying the problem by talking to experts and analyzing our old tables. They then began mapping and measuring the cafeteria, before they began to research their tables from manufacturers. Once they selected their furniture, they created a spreadsheet of their supplies including budget and total amount of seating. Finally, they used Tinkercad a 3D design platform, to measure out and map their designs. Students are finishing their presentations in WEVideo to submit to the Bond Committee and our Principal for them to select one of their designs.
Above are some pictures of them working on this project.
Battle of the Books

Thank you Whitford Community!!
I'd like to thank the WTMS community for going above and beyond in funding our Maker Space update! The $5000 will be used to supplement existing curriculum with hands-on maker space activities including 3D printing, Direct to Film (DTF) printing, duct tape crafts, various circuit board engineering projects and more.
New maker space items will help students gain design and production skills through opportunities to create original 3D printed items, graphics for t-shirts and other apparel and experience with ardunino-type circuit boards and processors.
Thank you!! Tim Livingston
