From Chemeketa: We are offering 8 FREE college classes (that includes free books too) for high school students this upcoming spring term. Classes will begin April 3rd and go through June 17th. There are prerequisite requirements for some of the courses and that is noted in the course offerings list. Students will need to meet these through our placement assessment process in order to be able to take those particular classes.

(From Jennifer Satalino, The College Place Director, Oregon): You may have already heard that the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is scheduled to open up on October 1, 2023 will most likely be delayed due to the US Department of Education's FAFSA Simplification process.

The absolute latest the FAFSA can open is January 1, 2024, but we've been told that FAFSA should still open up in the fall 2023. OSAC is working with the vendor who provides the ORSAA to make sure that it is updated as well.

Local means, only NSSD or a few other schools can apply, so there will be less applicants than for state or national scholarships. Sometimes, there are a VERY small number of applicants, so consider these!

LOCAL: Youth Benefit Golf Scholarship. Due March 31. This is NOT about Golf!

LOCAL: Kelsy Oldham Memorial Scholarship, Due March 31, this is a scholarship sponsored by Willamette Valley Roadrunners and is for students who have outstanding achievements in academics, running, and leadership.

LOCAL-ISH: Maps Credit Union Scholarships, Due March 31, Several scholarships for students residing in or graduating from Polk or Marion county schools.

LOCAL: Ronald and Sara Burr Scholarship, Due March 31, Based upon: Financial need (not limited to a specific income maximum), level of interest in the fields of agriculture or education, and grades. Stayton or Silverton students ONLY.

LOCAL: Elizabeth A. Hoke Scholarship, Due April 1. Multiple participation areas, and ONLY for Silverton, Mt. Angel, and NSSD students. Areas are:

LOCAL: Kevin McFadden Trades Scholarship, Due April 3, senior attending trade school/college, must have attended CTE classes in HS, 2.5 GPA. Forms in the counseling office.

LOCAL-ish: Burson-Landon Scholarship, Due April 6, High School graduates within Marion County, who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need.

LOCAL: Santiam Hospital, Due April 7, for students planning to enter a health care career. Application attached and in counseling/in link below.

LOCAL: SCTC Scholarship, Due April 11. Awards determined by random drawing. Winners will be notified by mail. Parent/Guardian MUST have phone or internet/broadband with SCTC/PTC/SCS and be a member in good standing.

LOCAL: City of Lyons Scholarship, Due April 14. Current seniors living within city limits for the last 5 years. Application attached in link below.

LOCAL: Brent Strohmeyer Scholarship, Due April 15, Applicant must prove an interest in the automotive hobby or enroll in automotive classes in an institution or higher education.

Oregon Athletic Coaches Association Scholarships, Due March 17, Several scholarships for student-athletes in Oregon.

Sub Pop Records Scholarship, Due March 24, $17,500 in scholarships for Oregon and Washington seniors who are involved in the creative arts or music.

CLEAR Alliance Scholarship, Due March 31, $500 for an alcohol and drug-free graduating high school student who is pursuing higher education in Oregon.

EEqual Scholarship, Due March 31, Up to $2,000 for students experiences homelessness or housing insecurity.

Jazz Education Network Scholarships, Due March 31, $1,000 - $3,000 scholarships open to high school and college students with talent and potential in jazz performance and/or education.

Foster Care to Success Scholarship, Due March 31, Up to $5,000 for students in the foster care system, renewable for up to five years.

Houzz Scholarships, Due March 31, $2,500 scholarships for students 17 years of age or older currently enrolled or plan to enroll in interior design, architecture, landscape architecture, or architectural engineering programs in the U.S.

iQ Credit Union Scholarship, Due March 31, $4,000 scholarships for students that complete two essays.

Linda C Eby Scholarship, Due March 31, The goal of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding high school seniors and School Counselors in the state of Oregon. $3000 and two $1000 scholarships.

Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs Scholarship, Due March 31, Up to $2,500 scholarships to students majoring in programs that lead to careers in manufacturing at trade, technical, community or 4-year colleges.

Oregon PTA Scholarship, Due March 31, for students studying towards a teaching degree.

Robert G. Porter Scholars Program, Due March 31, Up to $8,000 over six years for high school seniors with at least one parent or legal guardian who is a member of the American Federation of Teachers.

James Beard Foundation Scholarships, Due March 31, Up to $20,000 for aspiring culinary students.

Oregon Association of Nurseries Scholarship, Due April 1, Several scholarships available for Oregon students who plan to study horticulture, landscape architecture or related fields.

Oregon Logging Conference Foundation Scholarship, Due April 1, Scholarship for students studying forest engineering, forestry, heavy equipment /diesel mechanics, welding or other forestry related area of study.
