Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools
State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.
Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.
Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.
Review and Update Emergency Information
If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.
All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.
We look forward to partnering with you to make 2021-22 a safe, fun and productive school year for all of our students and families.

SPORTS SCOREBOARD
VARSITY SPORTS
Boys Hockey at Apple Valley, Tues., Feb. 15
The Lightning boys were hosted by rival Apple Valley on Tuesday, coming away with a big 6-2 win in a critical game for section three playoff seeding.
Eastview opened the scoring on a power play goal by Zach Wooten just four minutes in. Wooten buried a rebound on a shot by John Kisch with an assist also going to senior goalie Connor Christian. Christian would make a pivotal stop just two minutes later as Apple Valley broke free on a two on one that preserved the Lightning 1-0 lead that held through the first period. The Lightning held a 13-8 advantage in shots for the first.
Apple Valley fought back and opened the scoring four minutes into the second just as an Eastview penalty was ending. The Lightning responded with sustained pressure during an extended shift when Defenseman Gabe Tritschler and Ben Keefer launched a sustained volley of shots, culminating in Charlie Ortman drawing a hooking penalty. Eastview needed less than 10 seconds to score as Logan Opgrand sent a rocket from the left circle over the Eagle net minder with assists going to Wooten and John Kisch. The Lightning lead was threatened by a questionable boarding major that was followed two and a half minutes later by an Apple Valley penalty. Those penalties punctuated a chippy part of the game as players had to be separated on two occasions as two sets of off-setting minors were called. Apple Valley tied the game late in the period after Eastview was assessed a penalty for too many men on the ice. The Eagles were assessed another penalty in the last minute that brought the period total to 23 minutes in penalties. Shots in the period totaled 9-8 in favor of Apple Valley.
The Lightning began the third on the power play but took control of the game with an even strength goal three minutes in when Wooten scored his second on the night on a nice feed from Jordan Larkee. An assist also went to Nick Karam. Cody Domagalski got into the action with a short-handed tally after picking off a pass from the Eagle goalie. Suddenly down by two goals, Apple Valley began taking chances in the offensive zone leading to Tanner Kronberg’s snipe with assists going to Jordan Brothers and Tritschler. Brothers closed out the scoring with an unassisted tally with four minutes left. The Lightning made a statement in the third with four consecutive goals en route to a 13-3 dominance in the shot total.
The decisive victory lifted the Lightning’s record to 14-9 and will help their cause in section three seeding. The power play performance was strong converting on two of four opportunities but the team would obviously like to restore its penalty kill to early season performance and even better reduce the number of penalties against. The Lightning take on Shakopee at the Apple Valley Sports Arena in Senior Day on Saturday, before beginning the Section Playoffs on Tuesday, February 22. Calling all Superfans to help close out the season!
JV SPORTS
2/17/22 Eastview Boys JV Hockey drops a hard-fought battle with the Cougars from Lakeville South
Lakeville started the scoring at the 6:38 mark of the first period with an even strength goal. The Cougars cashed in on a rebound from Lightning goalie Kaden Goff #1. Eastview tied the game at 1-1 at 13:26 on an even strength goal from Jaymeson Zackery #37 with an assist going to Caleb Nelson #20. Not to be outdone, the Cougars deposited a loose puck in front of the Lightning net with just 38 seconds left in the period to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room. Shots for the first period were even at 11 – 11.
The second period saw the Lightning not allow a shot on goal to the Cougars until late in the period. Neither team was able to capitalize on their limited scoring opportunities and the period ended with the score still 2-1 in favor of the Cougars. An entertaining period that saw the eventual shots pretty even at 6 shots for Eastview and 5 for Lakeville South. Shots for the game were 17 – 16 in favor of Eastview.
The third period was another tight period with both teams taking care of the puck, playing good defense and getting solid goal tending. The period remained scoreless until late when the Lightning pulled Kaden Goff #1 in favor of an extra skater in a furious push to tie the game. The Cougars were able to notch an open net goal with just 6 seconds left to make the final score 3-1 for Lakeville South. Shots in the 3rd period were 11 – 10 for the lightning, resulting in total shots for the game of 28 – 26 in favor of Eastview.
Kaden Goff #1 was solid in net for Eastview, stopping 25 of 27 shots. The lightning record fell to a respectable 15-9-3 for the year (13-9-2 for the regular season). The lighting wrap-up their season on Saturday February 19, 2022, against Shakopee on Senior Day at the Apple Valley Sports Arena at noon.
2/16/2022 – Eastview Boys JV Hockey Team Bounces Back to Defeat Apple Valley Eagles
Your Eastview boys JV hockey team showed up to play earlier this week against the Apple Valley Eagles. The Lightning took an early 1-0 lead on their seventh shot on goal of the game when forward Parker Cameron put the Lightning on the board halfway through the first period. Linemates Jaymeson Zackery and Caleb Nelson were credited with the assist. The Eagles fought back and scored on their third shot of the game to tie the score 1-1. At the end of the first, the score remained tied, and Eastview ended the period with 18 shots on goal. The Lightning held Apple Valley to 5 shots on goal in the first.
The second period was an even battle on the ice and ended in a 1-1 tie. Apple Valley increased their total shots on goal to 14 through the end of the second, and Eastview had 24 shots on net. Eastview goalie Blake Jensen was strong between the pipes and made several big saves throughout the game.
Just 1:27 into the third, Eastview forward Caleb Nelson broke the tie and deked out an Apple Valley player to put the Lightning in a 2-1 lead. Nelson was assisted by defender Owen Ikubo. Lightning forward Luke Wasilowski had a sweet shot from the slot to put Eastview in a comfortable 3 -1 lead with 8 minutes left in the third. Wasilowski was assisted by Louis Rogers with a nice pass out front and by defensiveman Kevin Woehler. The Eagles brought it to 3-2 with 2:28 left in the third on a two on one rush to the net.
Apple Valley pulled their goalie late in the third, and the Lightning took advantage of the open net when Jaymeson Zackery tipped in an open net shot from Caleb Nelson to put Eastview ahead 4-2. Final score of the game was 4-2 Lightning with Eastview notching 20 shots on goal. Eastview goalie Blake Jensen faced 41 shots on goal and ended the night with 39 saves.
