Arrival and Dismissal
ARRIVAL
The doors open at 8:30 am and the official start of the day is at 8:50 am. Even though our building has programming early in morning, we do not have supervision for our students. It is a safety issue that students are in our building before 8:30. If a student needs to meet with a teacher before school starts, the student should schedule a time with the teacher and they will remain in the teacher's classroom until 8:30.
DISMISSAL
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays our school day ends at 3:20 and 1:15 on Thursdays. Students must exit our building no later than 15 minutes after dismissal. We appreciate that all family pick ups and other rides are there on time. We have been experiencing really late pickups the past couple of weeks.
Lunches
Earlier this school year, we had to make the decision to change our lunch schedule practices due to staff positions not filled. However, we now have a fully hired staff and will be returning to our two lunch periods as of the start of Trimester 2. Students will be assigned lunches based on their HOMES classes. Students should look on the white board for their new assigned lunch starting on Monday, December 4th when they come into the school. We will also be reminding students all morning on Monday as they are preparing for their lunch times.
Taking precautions
The FAHS 5 is the school's foundation and we have created systems around the FAHS 5 to help all of us be more successful in our work either as students or staff. We want all students and staff to feel respected when they are in our building. We have noticed an increase in vaping use in our building as as most high schools in the country. This behavior is illegal and goes against our district policy 520.3.7.2 and 530.3.7.3.
In order to curb that behavior, starting on Monday, December 4th, our restrooms in our FAHS space will remain locked during class periods. When a student needs to leave the classroom to use the restroom, a staff member will unlock the bathroom for them.
Over the next few weeks, the school will be looking for grant opportunities to install vape detectors in each restroom to help us monitor vape use.
Student-Advisor-Family Conferences are coming up
We will be hosting conferences on Thursday, December 14 to discuss your student's progress towards graduation from Term 2. Please connect with your student's HOMES teacher/advisor and they will schedule a time to meet. The conferences can be done in person, via Zoom, or a phone call. We have a goal of 100% participation every term!

Happenings in the Science Lab....
Students experimented with a lab technique called gel electrophoresis, which is typically used to differentiate DNA samples. In this lab, students used food dye in place of DNA and discovered the different properties and molecular weights of each dye molecule.
