We are very excited to see all of our students return to us from the break, the school is so much better with the sounds of our young people. We welcome eight new students to IPS who started this week, we know you will enjoy being part of our wonderful school community. We were sad to see two of our students head off to other parts of Taranaki to continue their school.

A reminder that due to COVID L4 Lockdown restrictions, we have had to move our Staff Only Days which were planned for 30 and 31 August. We appreciate that having two days in Term 4 could be difficult, so we have just one of them planned. This is Tuesday 26 October, which follows on from Monday 25 October as it is Labour Day. We have been able to rearrange our visiting speakers to the Tuesday. we appreciate your support and understanding.

Wilful Damage - We wish to thank our community neighbours who responded to a disturbance here at IPS early hours of Sunday morning October 10. We are very appreciative of a father of one of the offenders contacting us later that day to ensure his son assists us with the reparation process. It is not easy parenting at times, as we know. Thank you everyone.

Modular Buildings - We have three modular buildings coming onsite 30 November / 1 December, thank you in advance for your caution and understanding around this time.

Athletics - Panitahi athletics practices are in full swing.

Pouākai Tamariki are loving getting out into the sunshine to start learning new athletic skills. We are learning the techniques for Javelin, Shot Put, Discus, High Jump, Long Jump, Sprints and Relay Racing in preparation for our Athletics Days in Week 3.

"This week in Waiongana iti, we have started swimming on a Wednesday. The children had a ball getting into the water and escaping the warm weather. We have also started our athletics training where the children are involved in shot put, discus, high jump, long jump, javelin and sprints. We are continuing to build on our team culture and relationships by working with different members and teachers across Waiongana iti. We will be running this every Wednesday and Friday.

Congratulations to our Burkhart Cup Winners, who went unbeaten in the round robin play last term, winning 5 from 5 to qualify for the final. Tuesday, week 1 of this term Bell Block School came to play for the Cup. It was a tight start to the game with Inglewood winning the first quarter 5-4. The Inglewood girls were too strong on defence and started to come away on the points table. The final score was 22-9. Inglewood last held the cup in 2015 and have held it the most in the cups history dating back to 2003.

WHAT ARE THE TEACHERS UP TO? We are busy completing assessments so that we can begin writing end of year reports. We are preparing Year 8 records to head to the high school and planning all of our end of year events. It’s exciting but busy!

DINNER DANCE - We are also building towards our Year 8 Graduation Dinner and Dance in Week 7. Along with preparing decorations, invitations and menus etc students are learning traditional dances. Gay Gordon, Waltz, Maxina, Foxtrot are just some of the dances practiced. We have already had one chance to dance and the effort and attitude towards it from most students was outstanding. As a teaching team we were very impressed. We were disappointed however at the refusal from some to not participate at all. While it can be a little scary at first, the students who participated had heaps of fun. Can we please encourage you to have conversations at home with some of your more reluctant children to encourage them to give it a go.

Scholastic Bookclub orders for Issue 7 are due back at the school office by Friday 29 October 2021.

Your child’s artwork is now uploaded and available for ordering. Each child has been given a sheet with their personalised order code which enables families to view, order and pay directly through KidsArtWorks.

All orders will be delivered to the school and sent home with your child as soon as possible following production.

The last day for ordering is 9am Monday 8th November. These make outstanding individual gifts for friends and family and are perfect for posting overseas.

There are 4 grades u8, u10, u12 and u14. The league is run for 6 weeks on a Tuesday starting in Term 4. The fees are $20. All other details are in the registration.

A reminder the U8 grade includes 5, 6 & 7 year olds.

Hayley Benseman Mindful Skincare has collaborated with Pilates For Living (Phillippa Kingi) here in Inglewood and are providing a 3 hour workshop for parents to bring their children for connection & relaxation through what is a stressful time at the moment. It's focused on children or adults (or both) who are suffering with anxiety - depression or just covid / work / study stress in general. Great to help solidify the parent / child relationship.
