Rahab and the Spies
Who is kind to you?
Forty years had passed since Moses sent out the twelve spies and the people refused to enter the land God had promised them. That generation had passed, and their children were ready to embrace God’s promise. Joshua was the new leader of the Israelites. He sent two spies to check out the land, especially the city of Jericho, a key city that controlled routes into the heart of Canaan. The spies were staying at the house of a woman named Rahab when Jericho’s king found out and ordered her to give them up. Surprisingly, Rahab hid the spies and sent those searching for them on a wild goose chase. She then expressed her faith in the Lord God and told about her people’s fear of the Israelites. She had the spies make an oath to protect her and her family before she helped them escape through a window. The spies returned, full of confidence that the Lord would give the land into the hands of the Israelites.
Opening Prayer
Dear God, we don’t deserve Your love and kindness, but You continue to be gracious to us. Thank You! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Talk about it
- How did Rahab help the spies in Jericho?
- What did Rahab believe about God?
- What did the spies tell Rahab to do to save her family when God’s people came back?
Rahab hid the spies on her roof so that the king's men could not find them. She protected them.
Rahab had heard about the God of the Israelites and how He had rescued them. She believed that the God of Israel would help the Israelites take over Jericho.
The spies told Rahab to hang a red cord out of her window. That way, the Israelites would know where she and her family lived, and they could bring her and her family to safety.
Through the spies, Rahab and her family were brought into the community of God’s people. This is a reminder to us that God's salvation in Jesus isn’t just for us; it’s for all people.
