The Wingate Farmers Market is back for Season 3. We are so excited to see our regular customers and vendors back. There will be some fun surprises this season along with themes each week. Make sure to follow @ccgwingate on Instagram for updates.

If you are interested in becoming a vendor please email ccg@wingate.edu, We are not accepting craft artisans at this time. Since we are getting more popular (thanks to all our supporters) we cannot guarantee all vendors who are interested in coming can attend - but we will do our very best to accommodate everyone fairly. We have limited tables and tents. If you have your own tables or tents you would like to bring, that is great, please let us know as that helps with the number of vendors that come to the Wingate Market.

Dr. Wright is the founding and current Executive Director of the CCG. In addition, she teaches many engaging courses in the Religion Department, including Suffering & Joy, Global Perspectives in Ethics, and Food and Faith.

Fun Fact: She has a wild bunch at home which includes Nala (French Mastiff), Magnolia aka Maggie (English Bulldog), Dr. Nudicrous Nefario aka Nudes (Sphynx Kitten) and Stewie (Tuxedo Kitten), all spreading chaos and joy everyday.

Kelli is the fabulous and indispensable Admin. Assistant/Project Manager for the CCG since December 2021. She handles day-to-day tasks such as scheduling, emailing, planning, etc... and if you have partnered with the CCG, the first friendly face you will meet is Kelli.

Fun Fact: She is Dr. Nudicrous' 'fun' auntie and has an identical twin working on campus, so if you think you're seeing double you just might be.

Dr. Lapan is the exceptionally talented Service Learning (SL) Coordinator for the CCG and has been teaching, tracking and writing about our experiential learning initiatives since the CCG's inception. In addition to coordinating service learning, she also teaches psychology at Wingate and won the prestigious Debra M. O'Neal Award for excellence in teaching in 2023.

Congratulations to Dr. Lapan and Wife Helee on the newest addition to their family -- Nolan. The CCG family already loves Nolan so much (see cuteness below)

Fun Fact: She loves singing and is always down for karaoke.

Sissi Elias is one of the CCG's current student interns. She is a senior here at Wingate University majoring in Public Health with a Minor in Spanish. She was born and raised in Monroe, North Carolina. Additionally, she is a part of the dance team at Wingate University and Vice-president/ Founder of the Public Health Club!

Fun Fact: She loves to travel, dance, and hang out with her friends! She is also a licensed cosmetologist!!

Ionna Martin is one of CCG's current student interns. She is currently a senior here at Wingate with plans to graduate in December with a BSPH (Bachelor of Science in Public Health). Her goal is to attend graduate school and become a family physician assistant. She is also one of the co-founders and secretary of the new Public Health Club here at Wingate University.

Why is she excited to work with the CCG? "I am so excited to be working with the CCG, from what I have learned/seen so far this is an amazing opportunity to help out around campus, and an even better opportunity to learn new skills."

Fun Fact: Both of her parents are twins.

Peaches has been the CCG Garden manager since we built the raised beds in the WU Community garden in 2019. She is a Junior here at Wingate, majoring in Environmental Biology. Often while she is working in the garden she notices all our insect and animal neighbors. Her latest friendship was with several caterpillars that then became Monarch Butterflies who enjoyed our Pollinator Garden. She also has several hummingbird friends who regularly visit our garden. Come by the garden to check out her handiwork.

Fun fact: She likes to listen to music, games, and play with her dogs ... and she does not like cake at all.

A huge welcome to Reagen Thomas and Christelle Valentin, both Human Services majors, who will be interning in the CCG in the Fall. They are so new that we didn't even have time to get a picture ... so stay tuned for more about these exceptional interns in our next newsletter.

Wingate University Paw Provisions (WUPP) had its official opening for the semester last Tuesday August 22 (4-6pm) and since we have opened we have served 180 students! Our Bulldogs are fueled and ready to hit the books as their semesters starts, and we are so grateful for all our sponsors, donors, alumni, sororities, staff, churches, and community supporters who make restocking the shelves of WUPP possible. One of the phrases we hear the most is: "Thank you miss ... you don't realize how much this means."

To date, we have an active and growing thrift store for clean, gently used clothes as well as a hygiene (dignity) wall, shelves of non-perishable food items, bedding items, school supplies, and used textbooks.

Our Wednesday Midweek Refuel Program has started up again! This is a fun CCG program where we set up in the middle of campus and offer encouragement and snacks to all who pass. Our first ReFuel was August, 30th from 12:30 pm until our supplies run out. We are always outside Austin Auditorium -- look for our tables and many community friends and supporters come out to cheer on our Bulldogs too. All snacks provided by Heart for Monroe and Convoy of Hope -- we are so grateful!!

The CCG is thrilled to support the new experiential learning foundations course, Food and Faith (REL 140) this semester. Food and religions closely intertwine as foods and drinks often hold symbolic, cultural and spiritual significance. Students get to learn from 'dirt to dessert' the different ways believers understand creation, dietary laws, rituals, charity, and hospitality. Students are offered opportunities to explore their own relationship to food as well as food and eating practices around our local and global tables. They garden, cook and engage in table fellowship with their peers as they learn course content and make meaningful connections. Thanks to the generous sponsorship by Wingate University Honors College, Religion Department, and community partners like Food Lion, local churches, and Heart for Monroe we have six cooking experiences spanning a variety of foods, cultures, and topics. Each of the six classes were designed by Dietetic Intern Abby Furr during her internship at the CCG in August. Students are raving about their experience with Pico de Gallo (and learning knife skills) and they cannot wait for the crepes, spring rolls and other tasty treats.
