HOA Happenings
February 7th, 2024
for all K-12 families at Hillsboro Online Academy
A message from our Administrator
Dear HOA Community,
I hope this message finds you well and filled with anticipation for the start of Semester 2!
Our dedicated teachers and staff have been diligently preparing for the semester, and we are enthusiastic about the opportunities it brings for academic achievement, personal development, and overall growth. The enthusiasm and commitment from both students and educators make me confident that Semester 2 will be a period of great accomplishments and progress.
One of the pillars of our school's success is the strong sense of community and the close-knit bonds we share as a school family. Our collaborative efforts create an environment where students feel supported, encouraged, and motivated to reach their full potential. We believe in the power of the school family connection and its impact on the holistic development of our students.
We have created a K-8 Hybrid program which is housed at Tamarack Elementary School in our HOA wing. Our students are invited to participate weekly in PE, Music, STEM and classroom opportunities with their peers. Last month we had the pleasure of OMSI bringing their traveling planetarium to the school and all of our students had the chance to sit inside and “fly” to the different planets as they learned about each of them. Our K-8 staff is also offering many optional clubs that students can join either in-person or virtually. Some of these include crocheting, board games and chess.
Our High School program is housed at Oak Street Campus. Here we have spaces and weekly times for our students to come work in person with their core teachers, counselors and support staff. Our counselors also offer a monthly social time where our students can come play games, eat food and enjoy getting to know the other students. Our teachers offer in-person and online clubs such as art, GSA, Forestry/Agriculture and Dungeons and Dragons. Sign-ups for these and more will be sent out soon. We hope your students will take advantage of these social opportunities and create even stronger bonds with their peers and teachers.
I would like to extend my gratitude to our school community for your continued support. Together, we will celebrate achievements, navigate challenges, and witness the remarkable growth of our students. Let us embrace Semester 2 with enthusiasm, dedication, and a shared commitment to the success and well-being of every member of our school family.
Wishing you all a fantastic start to Semester 2!
Warm regards,
Shannon Freudenthal

New drop-off/pick-up procedure for WW
We would like to let you know that Wonderful Wednesday families can start using the drop-off/pick-up line! However, we still enjoy chatting with families before and after, so parking and walking up is still welcomed.
It is our desire to avoid the typical issues that come with the standard elementary drop-off/pick-up line, so please remember to be patient, stay in line (no cutting), and if you choose to use the drop-off/pick-up line, stay in your vehicle. The drop-off/pick-up line follows the outside of the parent parking lot (highlighted in pink).
Attention 8th-11th grade students & families...
Look for Course Selection information for next year in the coming weeks.
Mrs. Snyder will be visiting advisories and also hold a parent session.
Planning ahead for 2024-2025
Every student* attending Hillsboro Online Academy is here on a transfer and those transfers expire at the end of each school year in June. If you'd like your student to stay with us in the 2024-2025 school year, please fill out the Transfer Renewal Request as soon as possible! Submitting your request early helps us plan the upcoming school year efficiently and lets the District plan our staffing accordingly!
If you have any questions, please call our office (503-844-1050) or the Transfer Department (503-844-1771).
* Students in Inter-District Transfers (from BSD, PPS, etc.) do not need to submit yearly transfers.
