Where Excellence is the Tradition
Scoliosis Screenings on March 23
Clayton Ridge School will provide scoliosis screening for students in grades 6, 7, and 9 in March.
The purpose of the screening program is to detect possible curvature of the spine. If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spinal deformity may be prevented. A scoliosis screening will be conducted for these students on Wednesday, March 23rd. The screening will be conducted by a licensed physical therapist and athletic trainer from the Guttenberg Hospital.
Parents, watch your email for a letter with more information and details. If you do not wish to have your child screened for scoliosis, please call the school nurse or secretary Angel Burgin before 8:00 am on Wednesday, March 23rd.
Immunization Requirements
Iowa Immunization Requirements
Jody Pierce BSN RN
Clayton Ridge MS/HS Nurse
Iowa Immunization Law requires:
- All students entering 7th grade to have the Meningococcal vaccine AND a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, or whooping cough) booster before school starts in the fall.
- All students entering 12th grade to have a second dose of the Meningococcal vaccine before school starts this fall. This dose must be given after the age of 16. (One dose meets the requirement if it was received when the child was 16 years of age or older.)
Students WILL NOT be allowed to start school in the Fall of 2022 without proof of these vaccines or a valid exemption on file.
Iowa Law also requires:
- All students entering 9th grade have a dental screening by a dentist or dental hygienist within one year before the start of school, but no later than 4 months after the school year has started.
Please feel free to call or email with any questions.
Having health insurance is critical for our children to thrive at school. There are free and low-cost health coverage options available through Medicaid and Hawki which include coverage for medical, dental, immunizations, prescriptions, mental health services and more. You can have a regular doctor for your child and be protected from unexpected accidents and illness. Many working families qualify; children and teens in a family of 4 earning up to $80,030 may qualify for Hawki. And don’t forget, if your child is already enrolled in these programs, it’s important to renew their coverage every year so they can get the care they need when they need it. The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) can assist with in-person application assistance for families with children through presumptive eligibility. You may contact your local Hawki Outreach Coordinator at 563-556-6200 or for more information go to https://dhs.iowa.gov/hawki or call 1-800-257-8563.
