St. Mary’s County Fair Speech Contest
Students - do you have an idea, opinion, or belief you really care about? The St. Mary’s County Fair Speech Contest gives students a chance to make their voices heard by presenting their ideas to an audience and a panel of judges. Leonardtown High School will be choosing our student representative for the fair speech contest during lunch on Friday, September 16th in F15 (Ms. Harding’s room). The student representative must be able to attend the fair on Friday, September 23rd. Students can choose any topic considered interesting and appropriate to the family audience. Speeches are expected to be original - written by the contestant - and need to be between three and five minutes long. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards are given for each division; in addition, “Amazing Grace” awards may be given to students whose conduct and speeches reflect kindness, respect, and joy, even in the midst of challenges.
Questions about the fair speech contest and how it is scored can be directed to Ms. Bridges, English department chair (kjbridges@smcps.org). Students can sign up to participate by filling out this Google Form.
