Mission
Happy Administrative Professionals Week!
Student Spotlight-John Lohuis
John is also involved in the ANSEP program, which makes it possible to separate 6 hours of UAA classes and ANSEP study time from2-5 hours of training time. His uninterrupted study time at ANSEP reduces the overall stress level as compared to a more structured high school atmosphere.
When he isn't studying, he is training for nordic skiing or bialthlon, or tying flies, preparing for fishing season, heading out for some backcountry turns, or taking advantage of caribou or Dall sheep season.
Staff Spotlight-Ashley Bukowski
Ashley Bukowski has been working in the homeschool world for three years in Anchorage. Prior to FPCS, Ashley taught for seven years of middle and high school math. In the past, Ashley has coached volleyball, swim, ran wrestling meets and kept the books for middle school basketball. One of her favorite experiences with the ASD was participating in a student exchange program. This included traveling with five highschooler students to the village of Noatak to experience life for seven days. The students and Ashley learned to carve fishing poles and ice fish for dinner, winter survival skills, and how to sew beaver skin hats.
Ashley taught in Florida for four years before making the move to Alaska. She loves the outdoors. Ashley and her husband recently got into the mini-jet boat world and have been enjoying exploring new places and rivers around the state. In her free time Ashley can be found hiking with her dogs, four-wheeling or seeking out new boondock camping spots. Ashley loves to travel, having backpacked 30 countries solo before turning 30, she is looking forward to her upcoming trip to Spain to hike the Camino de Santiago with her husband.
A Note From Milo, the Muskox
We are getting questions about continued purchases from 4/22-5/31. Historically, ASD must have a close-out period to process all 22/23 payments to close out the fiscal year. Re-enrolling families can begin making purchases on June 1st to support year-round learning. Please hold off on whatever educational spending you can until June 1st. Receipts for May internet and monthly subscriptions dated 4/22/23-5/26/23 are due by May 26, 2023. Thank you for your understanding.

Chugiak and Eagle River Graduates - Grad Blast Event!
There is a Chugiak/Eagle River Grad Blast celebration planned for all graduating seniors in the Chugiak/ Eagle River community (homeschool and AMCS students as well) . Seniors are welcome to purchase an additional ticket for a student guest as well to accompany them to this event (guests are not eligible for prizes) .
Grads can arrive anytime between 10pm- 12am, and they can go home at anytime before 4am. As the evening progresses, the events and door prizes will get larger in value.
The event is on Monday because ERHS/ CHS have their formal ceremonies that day. The purpose of this community event is to have a clean, safe party for all graduates, pool our resources into one celebration in lieu of teens party hopping around town with outside influences.
Exciting times for Class of 2023!

Alaska Nurses Association 2023 Nurses Week Celebration

23/24 Sponsor Teacher Requests
At Family Partnership, we feel that matching the just right sponsor teacher for each family is an integral part of building the student/ parent/ teacher partnership. Therefore, we do allow parents to request their sponsor teachers. The school administrator will make every effort to accommodate parent requests; however, there is no guarantee that all requests be able to be met due to teachers being full. To send in a request, email the principal at parker_jessica@asdk12.org.
Congratulations Audrey for completing all of the levels for second grade in Lexia!

Candidate Questions
The FPCS charter application (which is a part of our contract with the ASD and the state of Alaska) requires our academic policy committee to be made up of eleven voting members: six parents, one student, and two teachers, all from our population. Why do you think the legislators directed that these people supervise our school?
In your own words, please explain your understanding of the role of the APC regarding our administrative staff.
Besides the regularly scheduled APC meetings, there are extra meetings, executive sessions, committee duties, and emailing responsibilities. How much time do you have for service on the APC?
What qualities can you bring to the APC board that will enhance your role as a member?
Please provide a synopsis (150 words or less) of your vision for the future of FPCS.
With regard to the operation of FPCS, what do you think is our greatest strength, and our greatest obstacle for improvement?
What do you see as the most pressing issue facing FPCS in the next month and how would you like to address it?
What are two or three ways that FPCS can better present itself to the community?
Please include a brief autobiography of 1 to 2 paragraphs.
Thank you,
Reka Stewart
