The Crayon Box That Talks
Imagine how dull the world would be? If just one single color was all we got to see?
School is Where You Belong!
We have seen a significant increase in student absences this year. Being chronically absent (10% of school year) can have a significant impact on a student's academic progress and their ability to access the variety of academic and non-academic supports that schools provide. Please reach out to the school if you would like support in getting your students to school!
MESSAGE FROM NURSE MANDO
February is Heart Health Month! Let’s take a breath of fresh air and enjoy some time outdoors with our kids again. With temperatures rising, let’s get those bikes and scooters out of the garage and go around the neighborhood (or a few more sled runs too!) Get those hearts pumping!
CHOP’s Nutrition in the Kitchen guide has some ideas for heart-healthy snacks kids may love:
Prepare grab-and-go snack bags. Mix packaged cereal (not sugary brands) with dried fruit and nuts, and portion into sandwich bags.
Make smoothies. Blend low-fat milk with frozen fruit and a banana. Add low-fat yogurt for extra thickness.
Put some grapes in the freezer — they taste just like popsicles.
Spread peanut butter on apple slices or celery. Add raisins if you like.
Dip raw vegetables (baby carrots, cukes, peppers) in hummus, salsa, or low fat dip.
Use cookie cutters to make healthy sandwiches in fun shapes. (whole-grain bread, lean lunch meat and vegetables or peanut butter and honey).
Stay healthy and have some fun! Coughs and viruses continue to spread, so don’t forget to encourage lots of handwashing. Thank you for all of the donated classroom supplies of tissues and Clorox wipes to help with this! As always, please feel free to reach Nurse Mando if you have any questions or concerns: smando@wbridgewater.com or 508-894-1232 ext. 2122
