Colton Hills School Bulletin
17 May 2023
Introduction by Mrs Jackson, Associate Assistant Headteacher, Pastoral
Welcome to our fortnightly bulletin. As our main exam season starts, we would like to wish all students every success in their exams.
An exciting part of my role is visiting local primary schools to meet our next cohort of students. Over the next month I will be visiting lots of local schools to introduce myself and give year 6 students the opportunity to ask questions about the transition to Colton Hills Community School. We will then look forward to them joining us for their induction days on the 3rd and 4th July, where I am confident they will have an enjoyable experience and will be made to feel very welcome.
Following the success of our rewards day in March where students had the opportunity to experience our inflatable day, we will be having a cinema experience reward day prior to half term. This day rewards students who have met our attendance, punctuality, and behaviour criteria over the last half term. I hope you enjoy reading this bulletin.
Zidane Tazeem wins gold in England National Boxing Championship
Zidane is following in his late brother, Haaver Tazeem’s footsteps, to become an accomplished boxer. Haavar, who was also a former Colton Hills student and professional boxer, sadly lost his life last year, aged 18, to a road accident. Although Zidane has only been boxing for a year, he has performed exceedingly well and has since adopted his brother’s nickname in the ring and is now known as Zidane “The Problem” Tazeem.
Mr Jones, Head of PE was full of praise:” Zidane has shown excellent sportsmanship and to be performing at this level when he has only been training for a year, it is remarkable. It’s touching to see Zidane continue his late brother, Haaver’s legacy in the ring. We are very proud of him.”

There was a really good atmosphere in the crowd and I felt very welcomed."

Congratulations to our Coronation poetry competition winners
The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Sandra Samuels OBE, recently held a poetry competition to celebrate the King's coronation & the theme was ‘We Have One Chance’. It focussed on the environment as the King is a passionate advocate for the planet. Finalists were invited to Wolverhampton Art Gallery where they performed their poems to the judges.
Our students did really well! David Omorehionwan in 6th Form won the highly commended for his age category & Rayana Itakhanuv won the highly commended for hers as well as the overall winner. Olga was also invited there as Young Poet Laureate to perform her poem to everyone. Congratulations to David and Rayana!
Launch of the NCS (National Citizen Servce Trust) Experience
You may have already heard about NCS (National Citizen Service) – over 750,000 young people have taken part. This year, NCS is better than ever with brand new away from home experiences.
This is your teen’s chance to get out into the world, get some new skills, make friends AND have fun. NCS away from home experiences will help your teen to Live It, Boss It, or Change It over five-days and four-nights – the choice of theme is theirs!
LIVE IT
This 5-day adventure away from home gives young people the life hacks they didn’t know they needed, teaches survival skills, and tests limits with adrenaline-filled outdoor activities.
BOSS IT
This experience takes place at University accommodation and is for young people keen to start their career goals or own business. It gives tools, know-how, and inspiration needed to take control and be successful.
CHANGE IT
This theme gives young people the change to change their community, or even the world, for the better. They’ll explore the issues facing society today, discover their purpose, and turn passions into projects that make a difference.
What are the benefits of NCS away from home experiences?
· It’s only £95 for the entire experience, including accommodation, transport and food (bursaries are also available).
· NCS enhances CVs and college applications.
· NCS is recognised by UCAS and will benefit personal statements.
· NCS improves confidence and offers skills essential for starting work.
· NCS provides new skills and helps people develop independence.
· NCS allows your teen a chance to stay away from home.
It’s an exciting opportunity and not one to be missed. Your teen can only do NCS away from home experiences when they are 16 or 17 year olds, so if they’re looking for a new challenge or a chance to get out the house and make a difference, visit wearencs.com and register today, places are limited.
