Chimacum School District's Purpose and Promise
Purpose: To be a caring community of courageous learners.
Promise: Every student is known by name, strength, and need, to inspire them to learn, dream, and become.
Chimacum Libraries Add Bilingual Books to Their Collections
At the end of last school year, our Librarian, Michele Moriarty, worked with an agent to purchase several books to help support our Spanish and other multi-lingual learners. Each library has an assortment of both fiction and non-fiction, age-appropriate picture and chapter books. In addition, the district was able to purchase curricular materials such as flashcards, picture dictionaries, and the Continental TEAM (Teaching ELLs for Academic Language Mastery) Toolkit.

GLAD Training Offered to ALL CES and CCP Teachers
GLAD, which stands for Guided Language Acquisition Design, is a course that offers professional development to teachers in the area of language acquisition and literacy. Trainees learn strategies that specifically target and promote language skills, academic achievement, and cross-cultural skills.
Highly Capable Opportunities Coming Soon
Enrichment, Training, and Differentiation
The majority of our Highly Capable Program services are provided in the students' general education classrooms through differentiation. Differentiation could involve extending the curriculum, offering learning opportunities in areas of interest, and providing enrichment through special projects. Over the summer, some of our teachers participated in Highly Capable training modules through OSPI. That same training will be offered again this year. In addition, we are looking both inside and outside our school walls to find staff and community with special talents and skills to share with our Highly Capable population.
