Update from CPHS Counselors
Anoka Hennepin School Counselors have aligned proactive service delivery with standards from the American School Counselor Association, the governing organization for academic, career and social/emotional development. This year, district wide, School Counselors will be offering evidence based interventions to all students 6-12th grade. In September, all 12th graders received an introduction to SCOIR, our new college and career planning tool. In October, all 10th grade students learned about self-determination and self-advocacy and how this can be helpful at school and in their personal lives. Data showed that 95% of 10th graders knew what self-advocacy was at the end of the presentation compared to 72% at the start. This month, 9th grade students had a "Meet your School Counselor and Support Team” presentation in advisement. The 9/10 School Counselors will follow up this presentation by having one-on-one "minute meetings" with each 9th grade student. We look forward to providing support to all students in the upcoming months about course registration, along with one-on-one "minute meetings" for 11th and 12th grade students. All of these efforts are designed to help students navigate their personal-social, academic, and career development. We will collect data to measure the impact of these initiatives and share the results with all of our stakeholders. We are excited to offer proactive, targeted, and age-appropriate programming for all secondary students district-wide.

When students are communicators they work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others. We want to wish all our IB Students luck as they finish up tri 1 of the school year! Use your communication skills, talk to your teachers or the IB Coordinators about concerns and know we are here to support you. Parent Engage 360 Podcast Episode 37
Parent Engage 360 Podcast Episode 37: Free school meals, educational benefits and nutrition
New this school year, every student is able to receive one breakfast and one lunch at no cost during the school year due to the state’s Free School Meals program. While the program is new, students will still have access to the same nutritious meals they have come to expect in Anoka-Hennepin.
In the latest Parent Engage 360 Podcast, host Liz Burgard was joined by Anoka-Hennepin child nutrition leaders Noah Atlas (director) and Callie Neumann (assistant director) to learn more about the state’s Free School Meals program, educational benefits and the importance of balanced nutrition for youth.
Tune in to the Parent Engage 360 Podcast on Podbean, Apple Podcasts, or at ahschools.us/parentengage360. The podcast is also available on Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, iHeartRadio and Samsung Podcasts.
Episode highlights
The state’s Free School Meals program began in the fall of 2023, allowing every student to receive one breakfast and one lunch at no cost during the school year.
In order to receive a meal, students must take a complete meal. Learn more about what makes a “complete meal.”
Learn more about why it's important for families to continue to apply for educational benefits even though school meals are now offered at no cost.
Neumann discusses the nutritional requirements from the federal government for school meals and the importance of a balanced diet for youth. Learn more about how to eat healthy with MyPlate at myplate.gov.
The Parent Engage 360 Podcast aims to provide parents and guardians with knowledge from experts in chemical health, mental health, internet safety and more, as well as the tools needed to support their children. Anoka-Hennepin hopes that providing timely and helpful information through the Parent Engage 360 podcast series will strengthen the bond between school and home with resources parents and guardians can use and share with others.
