Dear Trix Families,

Happy Super Bowl Sunday

Even though the Detroit Lions didn't make it, however, I hope everyone has a safe and fun Super Bowl evening. I love big sports event, partly because I am a highly competitive person. For me this school year is the season and end-of-year testing is the Super Bowl. Each week we practice (classwork and instruction) have quick games (tests and quizzes) all to prepare scholars for the Super Bowl (end-of-year NWEA, M-Step and PSAT). I truly want to see every scholar win in school and in life. It is imperative that they not only are present in school everyday, but also are focused and engaged in class each day.

Teachers and the school leadership team have been having conversations with scholars about what is expected as a Trix Scholar. We will continue to have these conversations because it is important for scholars to understand the importance of school so that they can win the Super Bowl of life!

Academic Focus

Now that testing has concluded, we are back to our regularly scheduled instructional days. We will be doubling down on the our academic focus for the remainder of the school year.

• Focusing on math facts - trivia, flashcards, games and competitions
• Focusing on academic vocabulary - those words that scholars see on assessments like NWEA and MStep
• Focusing on spending more time completing Zearn lessons - the computer program that is directly connected to the math curriculum, Eureka Math
• Focusing on spending more time completing MyPath lessons - the computer program that is directly connected to NWEA which provides practice on reading and language skills
• Focusing on using R.A.C.E to answer all questions - R.A.C.E stands for: Restate the question, Answer the Question, Cite your evidence, and Explain your answer.

All of these focuses are things that you can do with your scholar(s) at home. Please reach out to your child's teacher for more information.

Attendance

In addition to our academic focus, we will be focusing heavily on attendance of all scholars. In order for us to prepare scholars for their futures, they have to be in school everyday.

Please be sure that your scholar is in attendance Monday through Friday to be eligible for the weekly incentive. See details below. We have had 3 families win $50 gift gas gift card so far, you could be next!

Enrichment and Soaring Scholars

Enrichment and Soaring Scholars will take place as normal this week.

Enrichment - Dance

As a reminder to all parents of scholars who attend dance: Please be sure to bring in the dance attire fee tomorrow. If you need additional time, please be sure to let Ms. Owens know.

Boys Basketball

Coach (Officer) Fred will hold basketball practice this week for all young men who have made the basketball team.

Cheer

The cheer team practices on Fridays from 4 pm to 5 pm.

Many of our scholars are improving in math. But, to really accelerate their learning, they could use more practice. Another great resource for families is Khan Academy. Khan Academy is a free site that helps create practice activities for scholars. The website is https://www.khanacademy.org/signup and you can select the parent account to start. It will walk you through creating activities for your scholar so they can practice and build their skills.

Hello Trix Academy Families,

Grades 3-8 Families, Introducing... Multiplication License and Fun Factor Fridays! What is it?

• Students can earn a multiplication license when they know their facts up to 12.
• Any student from any grade can get a license.
• Grades 3-8 teachers will conduct weekly one minute drills in the classroom to see who mastered their facts.

Once notified, they will be given a timed "multiplication license test" to verify and then they will receive the license at the end of the month.

Parents, please make sure you encourage your scholars to earn points so that they can participate in Quarter 3 incentive trip. Scholars need 350 points or more in order to participate. When scholars are absent, they lose 10 points.

Attendance

Parents, I will be conducting parent meetings this week for scholars who have reached a certain number of days absent. It is highly important that scholars attend school on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated and needed in this matter. Dress Code

Parents, please make sure you send your scholars to school in a school uniform. Scholars must wear a collared uniform shirt, they must wear uniform style bottoms, no jeans, no leggings and they must wear the specified uniform color for their grade level. No Exceptions!!!

ARRIVAL

Scholars may enter the main entrance of the building at 7:30 am (for cold days) each morning. Scholars will enter the building and wait in the lunchroom with the supervision of a Trix Staff member. Breakfast will begin at this time. Our instructional day begins at 8:05. We will have a building wide morning meeting each morning during breakfast, then scholars will move immediately to their classroom instruction starting promptly at 8:20 am.

DISMISSAL

Dismissal starts at 3:30 pm. Early pick-ups hinder your scholar’s academic progression because they will miss important instruction.

Scholars will be released to the parents in the pick-up line at 3:30 pm. Walkers will be released at 3:30 pm.
