Support Needed During Lunchtime
Forest Glen is looking for a parent volunteer to help in the Commons on Fridays only from 11:00am-1:20pm. You would need to be an approved volunteer, per HSSD policy. If you are interested, please email Erica Van Asten at ericvana@hssdschools.org
Dress for the Weather
Please be sure to send your child with the appropriate outerwear each day. This should include winter jackets, snow pants, boots, mittens/gloves, and a hat. Please label all items with your child's name. As a rule, students go outside for recess every day when the outside temperature (factoring in the wind chill) is at or above zero degrees. Each recess is twenty minutes which can feel like a long time if they are not dressed warm. Some students are also walking to and from school and some may be standing at their bus stop for several minutes. We want all of our children to stay healthy so they can do their best at school!
Emergency Closings
Inclement weather may necessitate the closing or delay of schools. If schools are closed, this will also include the cancellation of extracurricular activities and events at the community pool, unless otherwise announced. In addition to District social media accounts, local television/radio stations, and the District website, HSSD will send weather delay and closing updates via text message . To receive text alerts from HSSD: text the word “Yes” to 67587. In addition to local radio and television stations, weather conditions can be checked on-line at https://www.hssdschools.org/
School Attendance
If your child will be absent due to an appointment, it is recommended that you obtain an excuse from your provider for the date and time of the visit and return the excuse to the school office. This will ensure that the absence is noted as an excused absence or tardy. Appointment cards will not be accepted as an excuse.
- To report an absence, please call the school's attendance line at 662-7990 by 9:00 am.
- Monitor your child’s tardies and absences through the district website: http://hssdschools.powerschool.com/public/
- Click here for the Planned Absence Form.

Howard-Suamico Storm Breakers Pre-Competitive Swim Class
Does your child love to swim? Please consider the Howard-Suamico Storm Breakers (HSSB), the local, competitive club swim team!
There will be a two-week, pre-competitive swim class from March 4-14 (no class on March 7). This class is for prospective new swimmers interested in learning about competitive swimming. Swimmers should be level 3 or higher in swim lessons or should be able to swim the length of the pool without stopping or needing help. If your child is not level 3 or higher, they can be tested on the first day. Instructors will not be in the water with the swimmers.
If interested, please register here. The cost is $30. There are 24 spots available. The class will be held at the Howard-Suamico Community Pool (attached to Lineville Intermediate).
If your child is not able to register, but would still like to try out for HSSB, tryouts will be held on March 15 (time TBD). Any swimmer who does the two week pre-competitive class and would like to join the team does not need to try out.
If you have any questions, please reach out to head coach Connor Huff at huff.connor@gmail.com.
