Weekly Attendance Report
Feb. 14 - 96.1%
Feb. 18 - 94.6%
Feb. 19 - 96.8%
Feb. 20 - 94.9%
Attendance Is Important
In the event your child will be absent from school, please call our attendance line at 936-709-2610.
Following an absence, please send a note explaining the reason for your child’s absence. If your child will be out for an extended period of time, please let his/her teacher know, as well as our attendance clerk.
School hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:00 and students will be counted tardy if they are not in their classroom at that time. Attendance is taken at 9:00 a.m. each day. If your child is absent at 9:00 a.m. due to a doctor’s appointment, he/she will be counted present if you bring your child back to school on the same day with a doctors statement that verifies the appointment.
When students are absent, they are expected to make up all worked missed. Students will have the same number of days to complete assignments, as they were absent. The student handbook states that make up work cannot be given in advance of absences.
Please avoid scheduling vacations while school is in session. State law requires that children miss no more than 10% (18 days) of the school year. If a child misses more than 10%, they do not have the required attendance to be promoted to the next grade.
Additionally, Attendance is a major component of our state’s accountability system. Our attendance percentage is factored into every measure of our accountability, which impacts our school ranking.
Regular attendance is very important. Every day is packed with valuable instruction that cannot be reproduced at home. Attending school regularly has a huge effect on your child’s academic success, and success later in life. Parents play a key role in setting an example as to the importance of regular attendance and arriving to school on time.
Please feel free to direct all questions or concerns to Robin Rickwalt at 936-709-2610 or rrickwalt@conroeisd.net.
Positivity Project
This weeks P2 character trait is ZEST.
Zest means you approach life with excitement and
energy. You energize people around you.
Zest/Enthusiasm is the ability to bring life and excitement
to different situations. It often leads to a higher level of
involvement and engagement both for individuals and for
groups. Those who demonstrate zest and enthusiasm
bring an energy and level of intensity to individual and
group work. These people are often identified as early
leaders and innovators as a result of their outward
excitement about a task or project. Look for these people
to recruit new group members and generate ideas.
People with enthusiasm and zest are happy, but this
strength goes beyond happiness or pleasure. It is an
activated positive energy, and associated with selfrealization
and autonomy. Zest is a strength that has
strong connotations with both physical and mental vitality
and well-being. It can be fortified through diet, exercise,

Car Rider LINE Do's and Don'ts:
Giesinger works takes pride in the organization and efficiency of our car rider line. We have tried various ways entering and exiting our students over 20 years. Please note the following if you are a car rider:
DO follow these directions for morning drop off and if applicable, for afternoon pick up.
DO pull all the way up to first cone closest to the flag pole. If a car is already at the first cone, please create a steady stream behind cones "2", "3", "4", "5", "6". We can safely load and unload 5-7 cars at a time by following this method.
Do NOT pull up and stop by the doors. This slows every car down behind you and we have this designed for safety to pull all the way up to 1. If you are concerned about your child not getting into the building, please know that is why we have safety kids and staff outside at morning duty.
DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR. If your child requires extra kisses, assistance getting out of his or her car seat, a note written, a walk up to the door, then we ask that you park and walk your child from the parking lot.
- DO move quickly through the car-rider line.
- DO NOT confuse quickly with fast. If you are in an extreme rush, the car-rider line may not be your best option. Park and escort your child from parking lot.
- DO NOT pass other cars in the car rider line. This is extremely dangerous. If there is a car who is regularly not following the rules and safety is a concern, please call the front office and let us know.
- DO put safety first. Make your kids wear their seat belts in the car-rider line. Don’t be on cell phones in the car-rider line. Put your car in park before your children get out of the car in the car-rider line. Watch for others crossing the parking lot in the car-rider line.
- DO NOT expect others to be safe. Every parent uses the car-rider line for the first time at some point. This may include families who just moved into the area, relatives, babysitters and older siblings.
- Do make sure your children exit the car on the passenger side doors. Please reinforce to your children that they need to go straight across the solid red and orange lines to the area away from the car traffic.
- DO have your CAR RIDER SIGN OUT AND DISPLAYED for the person calling names to see it vividly even if they know you during pickup. Sometimes it is hard to see into windows and anticipate who is inside the car.
- DO NOT make left turns leaving the car rider back parking lot.
- AGAIN, If you need more time and are holding up the line during drop off or pick up, we ask you to please park and walk your child up to school.
- Thank you.
Bus Cards for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Students
Giesinger Families,
In a continued effort to increase student safety, the transportation department in conjunction with Giesinger Elementary is implementing Pre-K and Kindergarten bus cards.
Parents, designated adult, or approved sibling must be at the bus stop with the yellow card to receive Pre-K and/or kindergarten students. If no one is there to receive the student, they will be returned to school. It is the responsibility of the parent to pick up the student(s) from the school.
This week, yellow bus rider cards will go home with our current bus students. If you need an additional sign or have changed your student's transportation to the bus, please email your child's teacher and we will get you a sign sent home.
We are excited about this new step in ensuring our pre-k and kindergarten students are connected to the correct people at their bus stop.
Thank you,
Giesinger Elementary

Attendance and Tardies
Attendance: Our school-wide attendance has been great! On average, 98% of our students have been present each day this year. Attendance is the number one indicator of student success. The instruction and learning that occur on a daily basis in the classroom is our central mission. Parents who make regular school attendance and punctuality a high priority are helping their children learn to accept responsibility, which is an important lesson for a successful life. We encourage students to become N.E.A.T. Kids—Never Ever Absent or Tardy. Students with no absences or tardies each grading period will receive a certificate and participate in a fun celebration. We strive for all our students to arrive at school before 8:00 each and every day!
Tardies: Our school doors open at 7:30 a.m. and may go to the cafeteria for breakfast or to their classroom to begin their day. Students are tardy if they are not in the builing at 8:00 a.m. Our instructional school day begins at 8:00 a.m and teachers/staff leave the front porch at 8:00 a.m.
Please email our front office for attendance questions at giesinger@conroeisd.net or Mrs. Rickwalt, the registrar, at rrickwalt@conroeisd.net. You may also call the front office at 936-709-2600.
