Learn more about High School Opportunities at STEM
STEM offers our students a unique educational experience that they cannot get at a traditional middle or high school. See below about more amazing things that set us apart from other schools.
Concurrent Enrollment Opportunities and Pathways
We partner with various institutes of higher learning (such as Arapahoe Community College, Red Rocks Community College, Metro State University, CU Denver, University of Denver, and CSU Pueblo to provide students the opportunity to take college level courses. STEM pays for the tuition for students to attend these courses so that there is little to no cost to families. All students, 9th-12th grade, are eligible to take concurrent enrollment courses as long as they meet the prerequisites from the institutes of higher learning. Additionally, we recognize that our 9th and 10th grade students may struggle with transportation so we provide a multitude of concurrent enrollment courses on our campus so that they have equal access.
One of the strengths of our program is that we have secured pathways for students to either graduate with an Associates Degree or to gain a guaranteed transfer to a Colorado University. Some of our pathways include, Biology- Pre-Med guaranteed transfer to any Colorado University, Aerospace Engineering- guaranteed transfer to Colorado School of Mines or CU Boulder, Biomedical Engineering- Colorado School of Mines or CU Boulder, and CyberSecurity- guaranteed Bachelor’s program through CSU Pueblo. Our Career Discovery Coordinator meets with students individually to determine their goals and career path, to choose the program that fits their interests.
We also participate in the Ascent Program through the State of Colorado, that allows our students to continue concurrent enrollment through year 13 and STEM covers the cost of their tuition. With this, our students are able to complete their degree programs at little to no cost to families.
It is important to note that students can take concurrent enrollment courses without completing a degree, however not all concurrent enrollment credits will transfer to 4 year universities and most will not transfer out of the State of Colorado. When students complete their Associates Degrees through STEM, they apply to a University with a degree which means that a majority of their credits will transfer and most students enter as a Junior. Our Career Discovery Coordinator explores those options with students to make sure that the courses they take at STEM are transferable and that students maximize their concurrent enrollment offerings.
P-TECH Program (Pathways to Technical Early College in High School)
STEM also offers the P-Tech program. This program offers industry level certifications and an Associates of Applied Science degree in CyberSecurity, Robotics and Automation, and Game Design and Development. Students taking these pathways will not only receive a degree, but they will also receive industry level certifications and must complete an internship with our industry partners. STEM pays for the tuition of students to participate in the P-Tech program through year 14, meaning that students have two additional years beyond high school to complete their programming at little to no cost to families. All students must complete an internship as part of the P-Tech program, with many of our students being hired directly out of high school. With the completion of the P-Tech program, students are able to transfer their degree to a 4 year University (many starting as a Junior instead of a freshman) or are able to go directly into industry.
Career Technical Education (CTE)
STEM offers CTE programming for students who are interested in a career in technical fields. CTE courses offer students the opportunity to earn industry level certificates and internship opportunities, so that students can discover their career interests. The CTE programming at STEM includes CyberSecurity, Engineering, and Business Communications. Students who participate in CTE programming will have the opportunity to complete industry level certification exams so that they can apply those skills during their internships. This provides students the opportunity to explore various careers in the technical field.
How it Will Change Lives
Our programming will allow for students to complete their Associates Degrees, receive industry level certifications, and participate in an internship program, all at little to no cost to families. We provide this on campus so that parents are not required to transport their students across the District to another facility to participate. Additionally, we allow our students to accelerate their learning by starting the programs as early as 9th grade.
By offering this programming in this way, we set our students up for success and advance them based on what is best for the child, not what is best for the school. We provide our students with every opportunity to be successful and to push their limits beyond what the traditional system says they should fall into. At STEM, we believe in putting our families in the driver's seat of their students' education and our role is to provide the pathway for our students to succeed.
