Parent Conferences
Each family in TK through Grade 5 should have confirmed the date/time for your child's fall conference. Your participation is crucial for a strong home-school partnership in support of your child's progress. Please plan to share about your child's strengths and challenges, learn about your child's progress so far and develop a plan to support his/her goals.
If you are a parent of a TK-Grade 5 student and are unaware of your conference date/time, please contact your teacher or inquire with the school office at 310-631-8794 between 8:30-4:00.
Middle School Parents: The grades for Quarter 1 will be posted in ParentVue on November 14. You can monitor your child's achievement by reviewing their courses on Canvas. Parents of students with grades below a C will be contacted for a fall conference.

Family Literacy: Hispanic Heritage Month
There are many ways to celebrate and honor diversity. Building cultural literacy helps our students become ethical decision makers in our diverse world. Dia de Los Muertos is an important celebration in the Latinx community. All families are invited to learn about this celebration and create an "Ofrenda" to honor the memory of a loved one who has passed. This can be as simple as a photo of a loved one and drawings of their favorite things. Participating families can drop off ofrendas or pictures starting October 30, to be displayed in the main office area. Also, the city of Long Beach is presenting a cultural event you may want to attend on November 4:
Jackie and Shadow, the Eagles of Big Bear, have visited their nest nearly every day for the last week. Their long summer hiatus around the lake without nest visits lasted almost 2 full months. Check out the live cam and you might hear them "chortling" back and forth to each other. They are stepping up their nest visits and making their nest stronger with each addition.
Celebrating Excellence and Equity at Powell
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
