Seckinger High School Newsletter
August 11, 2023
On Wednesday, August 16, and Thursday, August 17, we will be implementing a Block Schedule to allow for necessary MAP testing and to include an 8th-period Personalized Learning Period. You can find details of the block schedule below. During this 8th period, students will engage in advisement lessons centered around "Getting to Know the Seckinger Standard." Additionally, they will have the opportunity to receive remediation in any subjects where they may need extra support.
Students are already assigned an 8th-period teacher and classroom on their schedule.
Why is MAP testing important?
It provides teachers with accurate, actionable evidence to help inform instructional strategies regardless of how far students are above or below grade level.

GCPS Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council - Apply August 9-27, 2023 through the Student Portal!
Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) is a unique opportunity for middle and high school students to share their feedback, school experiences, and perspectives on various issues affecting students, schools, and communities with Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts.
Through the council, students are able to voice their ideas, share suggestions for improving our schools and our district, act as thought partners as they connect with fellow students, and build their leadership capacity alongside students with whom they may not otherwise work alongside.
The application for the 2023-24 SSAC will be available in the Student Portal from August 9-27, 2023. Additional details about the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, including meeting dates and times, are available here.
GADOE Student Advisory Council - Apply by September 8, 2023.
Georgia's State School Superintendent, Mr. Richard Woods, is also seeking application for his Student Advisory Council. These students will meet with Mr. Woods four times throughout the school year to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom and other education-related issues.
The primary goal of the GADOE Student Advisory Council is to provide a voice for students across Georgia to share their perceptions and ideas, and every year, they serve as a valuable resource as Mr. Woods makes decisions that impact students across the state. Student feedback, opinions, and perspectives provide insight for Mr. Woods and the Georgia Department of Education leadership and staff to make the best possible policy choices.
Jaguars interested in participating in the GADOE Student Advisory Council, see the application instructions below to apply.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Click here for the 2023-2024 Student Advisory Council application. Applications must be submitted by September 8, 2023, at 5 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted.
Students in grades 10-12 enrolled in a public high school (including charter schools and virtual students) are eligible to apply.
Selected students will be contacted via email. All students may visit gadoe.org/studentadvisory on September 26, 2023, at 10 a.m. to determine if they have been selected.
*Please note that the GADOE typically receives hundreds more applications than they are able to accept. Not being selected for the Student Advisory Council does not mean the student's application did not meet the qualifications.

A Guide for Jaguars Utilizing AI
