Spring is Near
Can you believe we are nearly getting ready to start the fourth nine weeks already? The year has gone by very quickly and I am sure it will only continue until the end of the year. As we near the end of the year, we anticipate summer break, but must also stay focused on getting our school work done and finishing the year successfully.
It has been an exciting time at Chisholm Middle School. Our students have completed their enrollments for next year, we are looking forward to Spring Break, and will soon begin our Kansas State Assessment testing. Be sure to read the section below for more information about State Assessments.
This newsletter is full of information and things coming up at Chisholm. It's going to be a great fourth nine weeks!

8th Grade Visits Newton High School
Our 8th Grade students completed their enrollment for Newton High School next year. They had the opportunity to tour NHS on Jan. 26th and also went through a career lab at Chisholm as part of the day. The Career Lab gave students the chance to try out some CTE career pathways. They also took a tour of Newton High School, where they got a chance to see in person the different Pathways that they can explore. It was a great day for our students as they begin to plan for their future.

Students heard about all of the different areas of the field, including medical coding, translating, and more. They also got to tour the Health Ministries Mobile Unit, which they brought with them to Chisholm. It was a great experience for our students!

Insights Into a Chisholm Middle School Classroom
Students in Mr. Buller’s 7th grade Social Studies classes have been working on improving their map skills, reading coordinates, and doing some geocaching around the school.
Mr. Adams’ 8th grade Science classes have been developing speakers and testing different methods for projecting sound. They are trying to figure out which configurations work best for sound.
Ms. Birch talked to ELA classes about the different types of books in the library and how to read the labels to determine the category, reading level, and content of various books. Students had the opportunity to look at the different types of books and then spent time looking in the library to check out a book that they had an interest in.
Students in Ms. Penner's class are learning about fractions today. One way they are learning to better understand fractions is by using various measuring cups and figuring out how the fractions make a difference in the amount of water that you have.
Ms. Birch has created a fun activity for students in the cafeteria. Chisholm staff have submitted pictures of their pets and students have the opportunity to guess which pet goes with which staff member. It's fun to see and talk about all of the different pets that our students and staff have at home.
