LIS Tiger Talk
January 19, 2024
Principal's Message
Tiger Families,
No matter how old you are, there is certain excitement and fun about snow days. Students were disappointed all week asking me why we weren't off for the cold. I told them there was a chance for a snow day on Friday, so flush those ice cubes, sleep with your pj's inside out, or whatever has worked in the past. Guess it worked:)
For all our students who purchased a ticket to the Silent Disco for today (Friday 1/19), it has been rescheduled for next Friday, January 26th. Also, please take a moment to check out the information about our LIS Dodgeball Tournament. It's a big deal around here.
Enjoy the snow and 3-day weekend! Go Tigers!

*On each of the above days, two teams will be moving on to the finals. The final four will play in the championship games on Friday, February 16th during Tiger Time at school.
*Single elimination tournament. The winning team will move on to the next round. If that game is lost, that team is out.
Team Information:
*Teams must consist of 5th grade students only or 6th grade students only. Each grade level team can have up to ten players and must have a minimum of seven players all in the same grade level. Each team can have one LIS staff member which will count as one of the ten players.

Farewell Officer Mike
It is with very mixed emotions that we will be saying "farewell" to Officer Mike as he has recently been promoted to Lieutenant with Loveland Police Department. While we are excited and proud of Officer Mike for his promotion, we will miss him greatly around LMS/LIS campus. He's become a very familiar face around here these past four years, and his service and support has been invaluable to students, our staff and our families. Officer Mike's last day with us will be Monday, 1/22.
Replacing Officer Mike as our School Resource Officer for LIS/LMS will be Officer Jake Steinkoening (otherwise known as Officer Steiny). Officer Steiny has a number of years of SRO experience here in Loveland under his belt, serving as an SRO at both St. Columban as well as at Loveland High School. Jake is also a coach for us here in Loveland and is a familiar face across our schools and community. We're excited to welcome Officer Steiny.
Although we'll see Officer Mike making rounds as a day-shift Lieutenant, we'll miss having him here on our campus daily. Thank you for your service and support, Mike! We appreciate you.

Spring Picture Day
Career Awareness and Exploration
The kick off for formalized, specific 6th grade career exploration and awareness in 2024 will take place on Friday, January 26 during Tiger Time. Drews Mitchell (LCSD Career and College Readiness Counselor) will prepare a video presentation to share with your student during Tiger Time that day. The students will need to use their Chromebooks/electronic devices to participate in an engaging introduction to SchooLinks, our online research and planning tool. This activity is designed to open up the world of possibilities for careers and can help students to have a greater understanding of options that are associated with their strengths, interests, talents and abilities. If you are interested, please click here for information about the 6-12 Loveland career exploration and planning system. You are welcome to reach out to Mr. Mitchell at mitchedr@lovelandschools.org with any questions about this or career/college planning in general.

College Credit Plus (CCP) Program
The College Credit Plus (CCP) program has been established by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to enhance students' college and career readiness and postsecondary options. The CCP program enables college-ready 7-12 grade students who qualify for college admission to take college-level courses. Students may earn both high school and transcripted college credit upon successful completion of coursework. If you are interested in learning more about CCP, please come and join the LHS counselors for the annual CCP meeting on January 24, 2024, at 6:30 pm in the LHS Auditorium. We strongly encourage students to attend this event. There will be a brief overview of the program as well as tables set up with the local colleges. The college representatives will share their college-specific information. If you are unable to attend the meeting there will be a presentation posted on the LHS College Credit Plus Google Site.
