MISSION: IGNITING A PASSION FOR LEARNING
Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
We are officially halfway through the school year and have completed our mid-year parent/teacher conferences. Thank you to all those that came to meet with the teachers. Please remember you can always reach out if you have concerns. We are here to help!
Lost and Found:
The lost and found continues to grow. We will place everything on the grand staircase so students can easily see all of the items. We leave the items out for about a week before collecting everything and donating it. Please encourage your child to check the lost and found regularly and take their items.
Helping your child grow:
How many times have you heard someone say, "It's okay I was never good at math either." It can be easy to make these comments thinking we are making our children feel better and that they are not alone. What if there was a better way to respond? Approaching academic struggles with a growth mindset can make a big difference. Many of you learned about growth mindset when your children were in elementary school, it is still relevant for your middle schooler! Please consider reading this article to support a growth mindset with your child.

Student Services Updates from the desk of Mrs. Paruch
A main focus in the counseling department for January was preparing our 8th-grade students for their transition to high school. 8th-grade students attended an assembly meeting in which a panel of high school students answered many of the questions that the 8th-grade students had about high school. The high school students shared their wisdom, including the lessons they learned from their freshman experience. 8th graders and their families attended a very successful Freshman Orientation meeting where they heard from many academic departments and had the opportunity to learn about extracurricular activities. 8th-grade students chose a pathway or pathways that they have an interest in exploring that helped to guide their class selection for next year. Students then had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a high school or middle school counselor to review their course selections and ask any other questions they had. Having a comprehensive 6-12 counseling program helps to prepare our students for success as freshmen next year.
During classroom lessons this month, 7th-grade students worked on identifying the characteristics of a supportive person. They reflected upon which of those characteristics were strengths for them and which were challenges so that they can be a supportive person to the people around them. They also worked on identifying who a support person is that they can lean on when they need someone and which characteristics they appreciated about that person.
