A Few Words from the Principal
Hello,
It is hard to believe that there are only a handful of days left in this semester. Here is some information to help you and your student finish the semester strong and have some fun.
Upcoming events:
Band Concert at Mill Valley Performing Arts Center - December 13
More information about this is included below from Ms. Eisenbarth
Winter Social - December 15 -
This is an after school activity sponsored by PTA that provides an opportunity to get together in a social setting here at MT. There is music for dancing, games in the gym. Lots of different things for students to do. See the PTA section or the flyer below for more information.
Supporting students to end the semester strong:
Timberwolf Success Program (TSP) - December 12, 13 and 14 from 3:05 - 4:30
If your student has work that needs to get finished and having a teacher around to answer questions if they get stuck would help them, then Timberwolf Success Program would be a great place for them to go on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday right after school. There is NO TSP the week of December 18.
Everyday after school - Teachers available to help
The MTMS staff are available from 3:05 - 3:35 to assist students. Encourage your student to stay for a few minutes to get assignments done and turned in before they head home.
Wednesdays W.I.N. days -
Wednesdays for the rest of the year will be W.I.N. days to allow for students and teachers to have more time for reteaching and interventions.
Check your students eAgenda to see what they have coming up and what they are working on to help them plan for the help and support that they may need to do their best. If your student tells you they have submitted work electronically through Canvas you can always have them show you that the blue submit button on Canvas has been pushed. If you question if something has been handed on or not, have your student email the teacher.
Spirit Days
We want to make December one to remember with some spirit days
December 11 - Be a Buddy not a Bully - Dress like an elf and spread good will
December 12 - Turn MT into a Winter Wonderland - Wear White
December 13 - Find those winter socks and wear them today
December 14 - Don't let the Grinch steal your day. Wear green and make someone else's day.
December 15 - Dress for success, wear your holiday best
December 21 is our last day and it is a half day with dismissal at 11:12 (See the schedule below)
Take care,
Jennifer Smith
Principal

Your Help Needed
Hey Parents of MT,
The MTMS yearbook staff needs your help increasing our student coverage in this year's yearbook. We are looking for the following photos and would appreciate you sharing your photos. Please use the HJ Eshare link to upload those photos safely and directly to the yearbook site.
We are looking for pictures to use in the yearbook of our 8th graders working on and/or receiving their driver's permits. If you have any photos previously taken or just recently taken, the yearbook staff would love to have access to those. We are mainly looking for photos of them holding their permit. We could also use pictures of them behind the wheel!

Restaurant/Business Givebacks:
Thanks to your support, we've made over $4,000 with our local business partners to fund things like the Staff Holiday Dessert Bar, School Socials, Teacher Grants, Field Trip Bussing, and more! The next restaurant fundraiser will be this Thursday, December 14th from 3-9pm with KC icon - Fritz's! Enjoy the holidays and take a break with dinner for a great cause. Please remember to show the flyer or mention MT when you order. Next month, you're invited to celebrate Kansas Day at Urban Air Lenexa from 4-8pm on Monday, January 29th! 20% of MTMS purchases of ultimate and platinum tickets will go to MTMS. Please remember to mention the fundraiser when you arrive! Feel free to reach out to Andrea Lerner with questions at (620)757-0349.
Winter Social:
Friday, December 15th will be our winter social. 6th graders will party from 3:05-4:30pm while the 7th and 8th graders will socialize from 6:00-7:30pm. No RSVP necessary and admission is free. Snacks and drinks will be provided. The theme is Pajama Party so students are encouraged to wear their best holiday flannels!!
There will be a DJ in the commons and the gym will be open for games. And don’t forget about the chance to win prizes!
Parents, we still need a few chaperones! Thank you to those who have already signed up. Volunteers will help with snacks, supervise the gym, clean up at the end, and the best part, observe middle schoolers! If your student cringes at the thought of your presence at the party, consider chaperoning the social they won’t be at! We greatly appreciate your gift of time. If you are willing to help, use the link to sign up. Text questions to Katie Rea at 913-220-8836.

Community Service Event:
We had such a good time at our community service event on Monday. Students made 10 blankets for Mission Southside. Thank you to students and parents who volunteered! We also appreciate the StuCo volunteers who helped spread the word about our Raising Cane’s Giveback.
MTMS Staff Holiday Gifts
Dear MTMS Families,
We are trying something new this holiday season to show appreciation for our amazing staff. With so many teachers on a student’s schedule, shopping for everyone can be overwhelming. And don’t forget about the custodians, office staff, and cafeteria workers that also impact your child’s day. To make things easier and to ensure that everyone on the staff receives a holiday gift, we have created a holiday gift fund. If you would like to take shopping for MTMS staff off your to do list this holiday season, we invite you to donate to this fund. The amount collected will be divided to purchase every staff member a gift card.
Donate any amount via Venmo to @Helen-Krosky (last four digits: 0874). Please specify that it is for the MTMS Staff Holiday Fund. You may also drop off cash or check (made out to MTMS PTA) in the office. Please mark your envelope with “MTMS Staff Holiday Fund” and include your family’s name. We will compile a list of families who have donated and pass it along to the staff. Donations need to be received by Tuesday, December 12.
The PTA will provide a holiday dessert bar for the staff on Thursday, December 14th. At this time, teachers and support staff can pick their gift card.
If you would rather do the shopping yourself, the staff has compiled a favorite’s list. Check out our website to find a link to their favorites.
If you have any questions, please call or text Helen Krosky 913-486-0874.
Thank you for supporting our amazing staff,
MTMS PTA

Illness, Covid and Influenza (the Flu)
Please report any symptoms of illness to the school.
Please be specific- report symptoms such as sore throat, nausea, and fever instead of reporting “ill” or “sick”. Giving symptoms helps with Health Department Reporting and to see illness trends at MTMS and in the district.
The transition to chillier weather often comes hand-in-hand with cold and flu season, but healthy habits can help protect everyone from getting or spreading germs. As we enter cold and flu season, we appreciate you encouraging these healthy habits with your children.
- If you have a child who is sick, we ask for your support by keeping them at home. Students and staff must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication, and free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
· If your student is diagnosed with Influenza (“the Flu”) or with COVID, they must remain at home for 5 days from the onset of illness, with return on day 6.
· If you have questions about your student’s health, please contact your school nurse. Additional information regarding health and wellness is available on the district website.
· Remind your child of important preventative measures for any illness, such as coughing into the sleeve, frequently washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and getting plenty of rest and fluids.
