VALERIUS- WHERE KINDNESS IS CONTAGIOUS!

We'll be kicking off our Kindness Challenges by talking about giving compliments. Our September Kindness Crew is working on teaching about compliments this next month in all of our classrooms and will determine a challenge for students, staff, and families for the rest of the month.

Each month Mrs. Cole and Mrs. MacGregor will randomly pick eight 5th grade students to be on the Kindness Crew. Every 5th grader will have the opportunity to be a leader of kindness this year! Our September Kindness Crew includes:

Logan D., Abby P., Sophia C., Rhylie J., Alyssa M., Micaiah R., Benyam B., & Xavior C.

5th grade students! Walk with us in the homecoming parade!

5th grade students (and parents) are invited to walk in the Urbandale Homecoming Parade with Valerius staff this school year! We'd like to start a tradition of our 5th grade students representing their school as leaders in the building.

The parade begins at Urbandale Middle School (UMS) and ends at the Urbandale High School (UHS). There is a Street Party put on by UHS at the end of the parade where kids can enjoy games, tattoos, bounce houses, meet the football team, a dance party, and food trucks.

Healthy Kids Act

It's very important to us that we teach students how to be healthy as they grow. Please see the Urbandale guidelines aligned to the Healthy Kids Act.

Important things for parents:

1) Birthday snacks are OK, but MUST be store bought. Nothing homemade.

2) All birthday snacks will be eaten after lunch

3) If you want to visit your child for lunch that is great! Please do not bring outside food. You can order a school lunch or eat a packed lunch from home.

Running Club at Valerius

Running Club Fall 2019 - Volunteers Needed!

I'm very excited to be heading the Running Club this year and more excited to get started in a couple weeks! It's going to be a ton of fun with goals, milestones and prizes along the way. Not to mention Wacky Wednesdays! What a great addition to recess to give kids another avenue to stay active. To make this a successful program, we're in need of 1-2 volunteers each day during the hours of 11:15am-1:15pm to work the iPads and help kids scan their cards to count laps. An extra volunteer or two is needed for Wacky Wednesdays as well. Running Club begins Sept. 9th and runs Monday-Friday until Oct. 14th.
