News & Announcements
A Special Message From Our Superintendent
CV Community,
I want to begin by thanking you for your patience as we navigated our first weather event of this winter season. One of the more challenging stresses to the school district as an organization is weather-related delays and cancellations. Over the past several years, the number of factors influencing our decision-making process has grown. But the single greatest factor remains the same – the safety of our students and our staff members.
As technology and weather prediction have improved, we begin our conversations with the county and township managers well in advance of a possible storm. As the storm develops, we are in constant contact regarding what they are seeing in the harder-to-reach places within the district and how well they can clear the roads. Sometimes, like this morning, the county and/or townships ask us to assist by giving them time to more adequately and safely clear areas of travel. The nature of weather patterns usually means that these are “on-the-ground” assessments happening in real-time. In addition, administrators within the district will drive specific routes to gauge what is happening. I was doing that myself on Tuesday morning, and the question I kept asking was, “Would I want my teenage daughter to drive to school in this?” The answer was clearly “No.”
We will continue to do our best to communicate as quickly as possible the situation as we are seeing it and the possible outcomes for the school day. We know the challenges that many of you face in managing your own work situation as well as childcare. These factors weigh heavily in the timing of our announcements.
Again, thank you for your support, patience, and grace for both this event and in advance for the ones we know are coming.
Sincerely,
Mark A. Blanchard, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools

He's a Coca-Cola Scholars Finalist!
Congratulations to Cumberland Valley High School Senior Arnav Chatrathi, who has been named as a regional finalist for the Coca-Cola Scholars program.
There were more than 103,000 applicants nationwide for this prestigious scholarship, and Arnav is now one of only 250 students from across the country to be named as a regional finalist. The selection process is based on a student's academic excellence, leadership, and service demonstrated in school and community activities.
The Eagle Foundation will host the 26th annual Recognition Dinner on April 28, 2024. The Foundation is currently seeking nominations for its Commitment to Excellence Award, the highest honor bestowed at the event. The nomination deadline is Feb. 12, 2024. Those eligible include volunteers, administrators, alumni, coaches, staff, teachers, and students having a current or past connection with the Cumberland Valley School District (CVSD). The award is given annually to an eligible person who, through demonstrated excellence in actions or achievements, deserves recognition as a role model for the CVSD community. CV building employees will also be selected for recognition. CV Building Stars are identified through an internal selection process coordinated by each building principal. Please use this link to access the nomination form and dinner details.
Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
Earlier this month, Middlesex Elementary School kindergartener Greyson Witter turned teacher when he taught his friends about his ability to read braille. This was such a beautiful display of our confidence and communication competencies. Greyson is a Portrait of an Eagle.
