Dear Dewey Family,

This year, we struggled together, shed tears together, locked arms together, and triumphed through each challenge—as a community. I’m proud to say that we are nearing the end of the school year, stronger together than when we began it. Each challenge this year has provided us with the opportunity to grow and develop as individuals and as a Dewey family.

In our final June newsletter, we have lots of cause to celebrate! As you read through, please find some event to attach yourself to and join in closing out the year in gratitude and commemoration.

To end the May month, I had the pleasure of attending the Dewey Dance Ensemble Spring Showcase, in which I saw so many talented individuals and troupes inspire us with performances. It was a phenomenal showcase reflecting the hard work and preparation that our students and Arts department teachers achieved throughout the year.

I’d like to send a big Congrats to our graduating seniors, the Class of 2023…you all will always be a part of this family and your efforts to close out the year should be praised! We will do our best to send you off in style starting with Prom and followed by Senior Breakfast and Senior BBQ.

This year, we began by asking ourselves what the significance of 212-degrees meant. We explored how one extra degree can make all the difference in our students’ lives and experiences. And we challenged ourselves, through our craft and effort, to add that degree throughout the academic year. This year, I believe that we achieved this in so many ways. I am so proud of this school and the individuals that make John Dewey a special place for our students.

Breakfast and lunch will continue beyond the instructional school year. Our Summer Meals Program is available throughout New York City to anyone ages 18 years old and under. Designated public schools, community pool centers, parks, and food trucks will be open for service. No registration, documentation, or ID is necessary to receive a free breakfast or lunch meal.

Additional information will be available as we approach the start date so please bookmark this page for future reference.

Congratulations to Minecraft Club's esports team BLOCKHAMPTON for becoming the Battle

of the Boroughs champions and winning the Mayor's Cup! It was an amazing event and we'd like to thank everyone for their support. Each member of BLOCKHAMPTON received an Xbox Series Sand custom controllers and Mr. Ahmed received several gaming PCs, gaming chairs, and gaming tables for the school. #DewinItRight

Congratulations to Minecraft Club’s esports team BLOCKHAMPTON for winning the Battle of the Boroughs semi-finals and being crowned the Brooklyn Borough Champions! We had a lot of fun planning, building, and presenting our Minecraft builds. We also had the opportunity to be filmed and interviewed. Our team will advance to the finals and compete for the Mayor’s Cup to become NYC Battle of the Boroughs Champions live at the Intrepid this month!
