Marauder Minutes

We want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving filled with food, family and friends. Our campus will be closed next week, November 20-24. 2023. We look forward to seeing students on Monday, November 27, 2023.

Parents,

Our morning and afternoon carpool drop-off can be a very busy time of day, and recently, we’ve experienced an increased number of close calls for our students and staff members. We unfortunately have had some incidents recently of running the stop sign at the crosswalk, as well as cars coming through the drop-off line at a high rate of speed. With safety in mind, we recently started working with the students, reminding them of the expectations when using the carpool line, especially when crossing over from the center lane.

Parents, please help us to keep everyone safe, while keeping the line moving by doing the following:

• Please do not speed.
• Please do not use cell phones in school zones, including carpool line.
• If possible, please sit your child on the side of the car they must get out on, typically, the right side of the vehicle which is close to the curb.
• Please do not park and exit your car in the drop-off line.

Use the parking lot to drop off students on the days a little more time is needed. Please remind your child to wait for the stop sign to be up before crossing the crosswalk.

MIDDLE LANE USAGE:

Please avoid letting the student exit in the back of line where it is hard for our staff monitoring to see them.

Please only release your child once your vehicle is 3 to 4 cars deep from the crosswalk and only after verifying that the STOP SIGN IS UP.

Once they exit the vehicle in the middle lane, please ask them to walk directly to the crossing guard at the crosswalk to safely cross there. Please do not let them cross between the cars. The only exception is if a staff member comes out and gets the student(s) to safely cross them over between the vehicles.

Please continue to follow the instructions of our staff members. When necessary, changes will be made, which will be communicated directly to the student(s) as they exit the vehicle.

Morning Carpool: Our staff members are on duty starting at 7:30 AM until 8:15 AM. Students arriving after 8:15 AM will enter through the front office.

The Wylie Way Christmas gifts will be picked up and delivered to Watkins Elementary on Dec 4, 9am-12pm. Assistance is requested from the community to bring these items from the campuses to Watkins Elementary. If you can help with this, please click on the link below to sign up.

When we return from Thanksgiving Break, Davis will be participating in the #KickButtKatie Bracelet Fundraiser for Coach Hathaway who is battling cancer. Katie Hathaway previously taught 3rd grade at Smith and PE at Groves before moving full-time to the high school where she is a teacher and the girl’s powerlifting coach. She is experiencing a recurrence of the same cancer (leiomyosarcoma) she had almost 4 years ago and is currently undergoing chemotherapy at MD Anderson.

This fundraiser is sponsored by the Wylie High Fellowship of Christian Students.

Bracelets/Rally Bands are $5 each.

Additional donations are welcome.

100% of the funds will go to support Coach Hathaway.
