Patrick Henry Post
April 2nd, 2021
Welcome back from Spring Break!
Our first week back from Spring Break started fourth quarter off with a bang! It was amazing to see all of our students back in class - both in-person and virtually! Even though the break was a relaxing time for some well-deserved rest for both our students and our staff, we were all excited to get back into the building and see our Patrick Henry students shining. We have highlights included below our two school announcements:
- We are now accepting new students or returning students into our Early Childhood Program. If you have a 3- or 4-year old ready to start preschool next school year, please call the school at 314.231.7284 to get the enrollment process started!
- We are now accepting students into our Summer Learning Program. If you are interested in signing your child up for summer school, please CLICK HERE.
For now, enjoy our highlights from our first week of April, and have a wonderful weekend!
Seeing Double
I think everyone can understand the confusion on our kindergartener's face as she tried to speak with Ms. Webb and Ms. Harris at the same time. Both staff members claim they don't coordinate their outfits, but I think we all know the truth.
Happy Easter!
Thank you to UrbanReach for putting on the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt on March 27th, and for providing Easter treats to our staff as a sweet pick-me-up earlier this week. We love partnering with our local non-profits!
Happy Birthday!
This week we celebrated several students' birthdays, and each one reminded us of how magical it can be to celebrate with our Patrick Henry families. Thanks for sharing all the cupcakes!
PreK back on the playgrounds!
Reading Buddies
Our reading intervention program continues to move our students into the next level of understanding. One fun feature is reading with Ms. Evans, our interventionist, or with one of our volunteers, who joins our students in their read alouds!
Hybrid Classrooms
Ms. Willard (and many of our teachers) provide hybrid instruction to our students who want to come in-person and students who want to stay virtual. Pictured here at the guided reading table, Ms. Willard is able to work with both an in-person and a virtual student at the same time.
3rd Grade Drama
Ms. Jackson's students continue practicing and perfecting their performance. We cannot wait to see the final production, but we want to recognize the hard work they are doing along the way to make it awesome!
April Showers for May Flowers
Patrick Henry Garden Committee
Even though the spring rains can be difficult, we are thankful for the rain this week as we know it will benefit our amazing school garden! Our garden committee received our first indoor plants that we will care for until it is time to plant them outside in our garden beds. Ms. Wildermuth is pictured below getting them into just the right amount of sunlight in Dr. Rogers' office for safekeeping until they can be added to the garden beds. We also have a new mulch project that needs some work! If you are interested in joining the Garden Committee to help plant and care for our beautiful garden space, please contact Dr. Rogers at deborah.rogers@slps.org!
Moving the Mulch
We started Spring Break with a movement session to move the mulch piles into place to beautify our bench area. Join us for our next garden work day as we move the rest of the piles!
Indoor Gardening
Ms. Wildermuth's plants were ordered and shipped over Spring Break, and they're now growing inside Dr. Rogers' office! Soon they will be planted in our garden beds out back. Keep an eye out for growth updates!
5th Grade Art
Our talented fifth grade students worked hard this week with Ms. Bryant to create inspiring and lovely landscapes. Their color choices and designs served as a moment of self-expression that should be celebrated for its authenticity and beauty. Well done, Patrick Henry artists!
Thank you!
Our staff had a professional development day that was sponsored by our partnership with the PTO at McKinley. Staff were treated to a fantastic Bread Co. breakfast and they were able to start their day of learning off the right way. Thank you to our PTO friends throughout SLPS for supporting our teachers!
Patrick Henry Preschool: Now Enrolling!
Ms. Webb shows off our new neighborhood signs that will be placed throughout the downtown area. If you have any friends or family members who are in need of a preschool placement for their 3- or 4-year old, Patrick Henry has the best Early Childhood program in the city! Call the school at 314.231.7284 or email Shanice.Webb@slps.org for more information. Enrollment is limited and closes quickly, so sign up soon!
Shoutouts!
Ian Farmer
Mr. Farmer received a shoutout this week from his second grade colleagues that stated, "He always goes above and beyond for his students! Even taking advantage of time after the fire drill so not a moment of instruction was lost. Second grade is very thankful for his hard work!" Awesome job, Mr. Farmer!
