Principal's Post
Yesterday we joined as a school to celebrate our second annual "Kickback to Giveback" students vs. staff kickball game focused on creating community, inclusiveness, and awareness of Mental Health Awareness Month. Our students beat the staff again this year with a score of 8 - 2, however, the real winner was Unity Center for Behavior Health which received a $15,000 donation toward the work that they do to support mental health. Thank you to our sponsors: Mark and Gwen Matthews, Grant Hammersly with Joe’s Burgers and Choza, Billy Stimpson and Brix Paving, Paper Caper, and AT&T.
Please be sure to check out the information in this newsletter regarding upcoming events including Senior Carnival, parking registration for the 2023/24 school year, and more!
Take care,
Kristen Colyer

Updates and Announcements
LOHS Student Board Representative 23/24
Lake Oswego High School is excited to announce their Student Representative to the LOSD School Board 2023 - 2024, Abby Flaa. Abby has many qualities that make her an excellent candidate for the school board including being collaborative, finding value in listening to others, reliable and driven to help support necessary change. Additionally, Abby is a valuable leader in the building and community as a student mentor for Unified Sports, a strong advocate for students with learning differences, and an extremely positive attitude. When interviewing Abby, what stood out the most is her commitment to making sure that all students at LOHS have a voice and that their voice will be accounted for when she is the student board representative.
Parking Application for 2023/24
As a reminder, if students do not have a permit to park on campus, especially current juniors and sophomores, they are not allowed to park on campus or the church lot as they are taking someone else's parking spot. We've had an increase of students without a permit parking on campus and it causes a huge problem for staff, students, and visitors whose spots are taken. Any student who will be a senior for the 23/24 school year and has received 3 or more parking tickets for parking without a permit this school year will only be eligible through the junior parking lottery. Any student who will be a junior for the 23/24 school year and has received 3 or more parking tickets for parking without a permit this school year will not be eligible for the lottery.

Senior Skip Day Reminder
It has come to our attention that seniors are planning a "senior skip day" for Monday, May 15th. A friendly reminder that "senior skip day" is not a school-sponsored activity and Monday, May 15th is a regular school day for all students. Any students with unexcused absences will be assigned CREW time (after-school detention) for each unexcused absence. Parents may excuse absences on account of illness, family emergency, or with a pre-arranged absence form. Parents may not excuse Monday, May 15th for the purpose of participating in "senior skip day."
State Choir
We made some LOHS history as this is the first time our school or any school from our district has placed in the top 5 at State. This stellar group of students and their teacher, Ms. Bamford, have worked really hard this year!

Do we have the correct contact number for you?
We know people appreciate hearing from us, however…52 students in our system have workplace switchboards listed as their primary numbers. Do your coworkers a favor and put your direct line as the primary contact when you verify your student's information.
Log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." Contact your student's school if you need clarification on whether you have a ParentVUE account. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.
ACS Mock Interview Program
As a culmination of their ACS class, LOHS freshmen create a resume and learn how to interview for an entry-level job. We need many volunteers to make this an effective program and empower our students with practical skills. This is one of the few volunteer opportunities that enables you to be in the classroom at LOHS. We will be hosting the ACS Mock Interview program for six ACS periods of second semester students from May 18-23, 2023 in person at Lake Oswego High School.
Volunteers on Thursday and Friday, May 18 and 19, will work with small groups of students in the classroom to practice for a job interview with a pre-set curriculum. Volunteers on Monday and Tuesday, May 22 and 23, will interview students individually for a typical entry-level high school job.
To volunteer, please complete two steps:
1. Sign up for Mock Interview Program volunteer slots here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0B4EADAC2CA6F49-lohs5
2. Complete a volunteer background check if you have not completed one this school year (check boxes for all schools where you would like to volunteer) here. It only takes 5 minutes to complete but can take a few weeks to get approved, so please complete it ASAP: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MjIwOTplbi1VUw==

Asthma/Allergy Medications at School
It is critical to the health and safety of your student to bring ALL doctor recommended medications to school. Over the summer, speak with your doctor to get the proper supplies for school and then go to the LOSD web page to find the proper forms to be completed with the medications. If your student is in Elementary or Secondary and will store their meds at school, watch for a medication drop off time for your particular school. If they are in secondary and keeping their medication in their possession, please submit the proper paperwork so we are aware of where to find their medication in case of an emergency.
Individualized Health Plan? - Watch for an Email
If your child has a LOSD Individualized Health Plan (IHP) developed in consultation with your District Nurse, please watch for an email! Your response is needed to confirm or update your student's plan. We appreciate your prompt response.
Immunizations
Please review the OHA requirements and information on required immunizations for students. Please make arrangements to complete immunizations and update Synergy over the summer to avoid exclusion in 2024.
If you would like to speak to your school’s district nurse, click the link below for contact information.
Ways to report incidents related to bias, racism or harassment in losd
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/
In addition, below are reporting methods for parents-guardians or students to use to report issues related to racist, bias, or harassment incidents.
