Here's the Scoop
Summer 2023
A Note from Mr. F
I hope your time in the weeks since school was let out has brought you some extra time with your children and great adventures as a family. My wife and I spent a week camping at MN State Parks this past June. We live in such a beautiful state!
At Hamilton Ridge, June is usually a time to wrap up the school year and tie any loose ends before July. Gearing up for the upcoming year starts right away in July. I want to make you aware of a couple of items that will be impacting our school this coming fall.
First, our class sizes in 1st and 2nd grade have grown to the point where we will have additional sections at each of those grade levels. Instead of four sections we will have five. We are currently in the process of hiring for those positions as well as a new 5th grade teacher. Our good friend and colleague, Lisa Henningsen, resigned to follow her passion for outdoor learning. Her wisdom will be missed.
Ms. Vicky has interviewed for, and accepted, the High School Lead Custodian position. Her hands-on approach to not only her duties, but also her loving interactions with students, will be a great loss to our school community. This opportunity will allow her to better utilize her leadership skills as she will be going from a custodial staff of three to a staff of 17. She, also, will be missed by many.
Families can also start preparing for the new year…even right now in July. The National Association of Elementary Principals released a report to parents titled, “7 Strategies to Help Kids Start the School Year Strong.” I encourage you to click on the link below to find some practical advice in helping prepare your child for the upcoming school year.

Important Scheduling Information for Your Child
Welcome Visit and Assessment Days
On September 5 and 6, all students in grades K-5 will meet with their 2023-24 teacher individually for approximately 30 minutes. Teachers will use this time getting to know students and their families. Grades 1-5 will also take a literacy assessment. The assessment results will give teachers the data they need to target instruction for students from the first day of the school year. You will receive communication mid-August that will include information on how to sign-up for Welcome Visit and Assessment Days. The first official day of classes for students in grades K- 5 is Thursday, September 7.

Kindergarten and newly enrolled families: In the coming weeks, you will receive a Welcome Letter (in the US Mail) from the PLSAS district office with instructions on how to set up Infinite Campus and other tools the district uses to manage information, activities, etc.
Mid August, all families will receive an email indicating teachers have been assigned and are available to view in Infinite Campus. Teacher assignments will not be sent by mail.
