State Testing Round 3 is Coming: ACT ASPIRE!
April 10th-13th- ASPIRE Test for 9th graders
- Block schedule for all students April 10, 11, 12, and 13.
- 9th graders will take the ASPIRE test during scheduled block classes in ELA and Math.
- It is extremely important for all Freshmen to test on April 10-13th. Freshmen who are absent on will test on one of the makeup days and miss a day of classes.
- Information is posted on the BCHS website regarding the ASPIRE test & schedule.
We encourage our students to do their very best as they take these assessments. State testing provides us data on how our students are learning and progressing. Additionally, students may have positive college opportunities from success on the ACT!
GRADE ENHANCEMENT!
Students that show proficiency or higher can be eligible for course grade enhancement for aligned courses. Grades may be raised due to demonstrating knowledge and proficiency on state tests in ELA, Math, or Science. Please note that grades will not be affected negatively due to state testing. For more information on course grade enhancement, please click here.
BCHS IS WORKING TO HELP OUR STUDENTS BE ON TIME!
Research shows students arriving to school with time to spare have the luxury of settling in, greeting their teachers and classmates, selecting preferred classwork, and focusing their minds on the lessons to come. Students arriving late miss out on this natural transition period, and chronic tardiness may cause students to struggle with academic focus and relationships with peers. Showing up on time to school every day can help students develop the habit of being punctual, illustrates to them your commitment to their learning and friendships, and helps reduce classroom interruptions and distractions for all students. Missing just 15 minutes of school twice a week equates to 3 missed school days per year!
Students who have ZERO TARDIES for the month of April. We will be offering a front row parking spots for a junior and senior for the month of May and free athletic passes for a freshmen and Sophomore for the '23-'24 school year.
It's time to be on time, Jags!
BCHS is Applying for A+ School of Excellence
Here is more information from AEF on the A+ School of Excellence Award program:
The A+ School of Excellence® Award program began in 1983 as a way to identify, celebrate, and recognize educational excellence in schools throughout Arizona. In addition to showcasing exceptional public schools, the A+ program provides school teams with an outstanding comprehensive framework that serves as a basis for school self-assessment and planning.
The A+ School of Excellence® award is a powerful energizer for increasing public confidence in recognized schools, often resulting in greater parent and community involvement and even serves as an economic driver for some communities. A+ Schools are celebrated and recognized as exceptional. Earning the highly prestigious and coveted A+ designation spotlights the positive successes happening in public schools every day.
We would love to hear from you so we can include community and parent input as we write our application now through the summer! If you have a story or an experience that can help us in our reflective application writing process, we would love to hear from you. This could be about BC as a whole or even a program, a staff member, a class, or an experience. Your story could be included in our application! Please add in your thinking on this Google form: https://forms.gle/61zDzUPUW7Xnz3LbA
CAMPUS SAFETY REMINDERS
Recap on our lockdown
Here are some reminders about our safety procedures that can help our campus community:
- Campus employees are focused on student safety during a lock down so communication from the campus during the event will be limited.
- All communication comes from our district supports during procedures and is always posted on the District Website first and foremost. Always go to the website!
- Communication will always notify families to not come to the school. Information regarding plans for reunification, if needed, will be posted on the website.
- We do want your students to text you that they are okay, but we do ask they turn their phone off after to help keep locked down classrooms quiet and safe.
- Please look over our campus safety Power Point we sent out in the beginning of the year for procedures below.

Spring Sports Update
Softball
Boulder Creek Softball has been working hard since tryouts. We are fortunate this season to have all three levels of softball making strides to keep the future looking bright. These young ladies are putting in great effort on the field and in the classroom to keep the Jaguar pride going strong. The varsity team did a have nice showing in a tournament and finished second place. The girls fought and battled for three days and really grew and connected as a team. Congratulations to all of them. Please stop out and cheer on your Jaguars softball program!
Baseball
The 2023 Baseball season for Boulder Creek has started off well with a 5 and 3 record. The players have already accomplished some of their team and individual goals for the season. We have had some great wins so far. Opening against Mountain Pointe, 7-5, defeating Shadow Ridge, 7-0, and Sunnyslope, 11-3. Standout performances have come from Senior catcher, Matt Stewart who has 2 home runs and leads the team in RBI's. Quinn Lorgeree has impressed on the mound and at the plate, leading the team in strike outs and extra base hits respectively. Other notable performances have been from Senior infielders Ryley Emery and Ian Maldonado and Senior pitcher Joey Parrish. Junior outfielder Jeremy Crawford has hit two home runs.
Women's Tennis
The Women's Varsity Tennis Team has had a fantastic season so far. The team is currently at 9 wins and 1 loss (against Basha). The girls have 4 matches yet to play of which 2 are at home. The will take on Pinnacle on Tuesday April 4th at home at 3:30pm, and Horizon at home on April 13th at 3:30pm. Please come out and support this amazing team! They will also be away against Desert Mountain on April 6th, and at Chaparral on April 11th. We have 2 members that are currently undefeated in their singles: Junior Maia Milnor and Junior Talia Pollock. Sophomore Hailey Schmidt is also right up there with only one loss in her singles. Sophomore Alisa Barney is at 8 wins and only 2 losses, as well as Senior Monika Juncaj with 7 wins and 3 losses. Freshman Olivia Vallow has been throw into 4 singles matches last minute and is at 2 wins and 2 losses. Junior Kylie Nissalke has been partnered in doubles with Talia Pollock and they are at 5 wins and only 1 loss. Sophomore Lorena Pereira Sanchez is a Foreign Exchange student from Spain that joined us this year and has also made contributions to the team. In doubles: Alisa Barney and Hailey Schmidt are currently undefeated. Talia Pollock and Kylie Nissalke are at 5 wins and only 1 loss. Monika Juncaj and Maia Milnor are partnered and are at 6 wins and 4 losses. The team was also invited to an Invitational Round Robin Tournament on Friday March 31st and brought home a 2nd place finish. Looking ahead to the next 2 weeks of play the girls have the potential to make it to State in various rounds. Great job to all the girls on the Varsity Tennis Team!
Men's Tennis
Beach Volleyball
Boys Indoor Volleyball
Men's Volleyball 2023 Season has had many highlights. These young men have shown real character by volunteering in a Highway Cleanup in partnership with the Anthem Rotary and hosting an art supply drive for FreeArts for kids (organization for abused children). The three teams have really bonded and are coming together as a real program. Our veteran players are very supportive and assist in the progress of the younger players. Ransom Jones (senior) was named ‘all tournament team’ at the Kellis Tournament.
The freshman players have made a huge splash. Max McFarland and Cruz Kaikala were pulled up to varsity and have been working fearlessly. They bring such positive energy to the team. Ernesto Lopez, nominee for player of the month has moved up to JVA and is the most dynamic young player who does not know the meaning of quit. He is also the most respectful young man. This season has brought this program together and our future looks so bright. As you all know, none of this can be accomplished without our coaching staff and parents.
Track and Field
The Boulder Creek track team is a young team with many first time athletes joining the team. Our returning athletes have been improving their marks and moving up in the all time school rankings. We have several athletes in the top 5 all time rankings including Isabella Detorrice-Wynne in javelin, Kennedy Loveland in shot put and Julie DeReese in hurdles. We have had 5 school records broken including the 4x400m relay (Sage Sollars, Ryah Zakula, Kate McKenzie, Makenna Topp) and a ten year old record in the 4x800m relay (Sage Sollars, Ryah Zakula, Averi Shuey, Makenna Topp). Individual school records have been broken in the 100 and 200 meter races by sophomore Kate McKenzie. The 400 meter record has been broken by Makenna Topp, who is also close to breaking the ten year old 800 meter record, which would put her in the unprecedented postion of holding 5 records from 400 to 3200 meters. The team is looking forward to continued growth and an exciting post season this year.

BC World Languages have Amazing Success on Seal of Biliteracy Test 2023!
Great news! This month 67 Boulder Creek students in world languages took the AZ Seal of biliteracy test to have a seal on their diploma which states that they are bilingual! These students were proficient in Spanish, French, Russian, Portuguese, and Mandarin.
Research shows that learning a new language in adolescence and adulthood can take anywhere from 600-2000 hours of contact with that language to become proficient and fluent! It’s a huge commitment and one that we here at Boulder Creek take seriously.
Today we celebrate that 93% of students who took the test in each respective language passed as bilingual in speaking, writing, listening, and reading. These students have shown persistence, resilience, and dedication by taking anywhere between 3-12 years of study.
On behalf of the World Languages Department here at Boulder Creek, we believe that all students are capable of learning another language and we are proud of you for making a positive impact on our school community.
Well done, Bilingual Jags!!!!!!!!!!!!

Show that Jaguar P.R.I.D.E!
BC Jaguar PRIDE means that our Jaguars are Prepared, Respectful, have Integrity, are Disciplined, and show that Everyone is united! To ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, we PRIDE expectations with students on Thursday in second period.
- This includes our expectation that students keep their cellphones on silent mode in their backpack so students can properly engage in learning.
- Students should be prepared with a fully charged iPad each day and any other items required for class to help with their success.
- It is also critical that students are in class and on time to be present for learning which is critical for their success.
- We also expect our students to be respectful of classrooms, school and personal property each and every day.
Please review our BCHS PRIDE expectations in our Student/Parent Handbook on pages 48-50. Taking time to show Jaguar PRIDE is important as we work toward our mission of providing “a safe learning environment with rigorous academic opportunities for all students to graduate as productive, responsible, and contributing citizens!”
