Health & Safety
Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools
State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.
Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.
Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.
Review and Update Emergency Information
If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.
All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.
We look forward to partnering with you to make 2021-22 a safe, fun and productive school year for all of our students and families.

Boys Swim and Dive Faces Off Against the Farmington Tigers
On Friday, February 4th Lightning swimmers and divers took to the pool for their eighth meet of the season to challenge the Farmington Tigers. This meet was full of exciting events, with many close match-ups between competitors. One of these match-ups occurred during the junior varsity Individual Medley. Jakob Linscheid stayed right with his competition during each lap, making a final push at the end to pull ahead and take 1st place by just under one second. Another dynamic race was the varsity 50 Yard Freestyle, as Nick Phomsouvanh sprinted to a 1st place finish with a Tiger following only 0.03 seconds behind! Diving had a close match-up for the top two spots, but Isaac Field rose above his competition, taking 1st place by just over five points. Alex Schmidt gathered points for the Lighting while distancing himself from the competition, easily taking 1st place in the varsity 100 and 200 Yard Freestyle events. Throughout the night, the winning scores between the teams shifted between the Lightning and the Tigers, with the final score riding on the last race, the Varsity 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. 2/2/22 Eastview JV Boys Hockey dominates the JV Hawks from Chaska
Eastview came out strong in the first period, quickly gaining a shot advantage. However, the best saves of the first period were by Lightning goalie Kaden Goff #1 on the Hawks first 2 shots of the game. Goff stopped a 2 on 1 and a breakaway to keep the game scoreless through 13 minutes of the period. Then Kevin Woehler #24 scored Eastview’s first goal at 13:36, with assists from Jaymeson Zachary #37 and Calen Nelson #20. Just 20 seconds later, at 13:54, Jaymeson Zachery #37 scored the Lightning’s second goal of the period with an assist going to Kevin Woehler #24. Eastview outshot the Hawks 13-4 in period 1.
Eastview again dominated the shots in the second period, but the first and only goal of the period went to Chaska at the 9:46 mark to cut the Lightning lead to 2-1. Eastview again outshot the Hawks 15-4, but were frustrated by the Chaska netminder. There were no penalties called in the second period and few whistles, and a lot of rubber thrown at the Hawks goal to no avail.
Eastview broke the game open in the third period with goals in the fifth and sixth minute to open up a 4-1 lead. Gavin Churness #38 scored at 5:45 with assists to Sean Kalthoff #34 and Billy Downs #23. Mike Cherevatsky #8 scored at 6:20 with an assist going to Louis Rogers #28. The Lightning’s final goal of the period and the game, which made it 5-1, was scored at 11:06 by Abram Johnson #33 with an assist from Mike Cherevatsky #8. Shots in the third were 15-1 in favor of Eastview, to round out a dominate evening of shots at 43-9.
Goalie Kaden Goff #1 earned his 7th win of the season and the Lightning JV boys improved to 14-6-3. The lightning are back at it on Tuesday February 8, 2022, at home against Rosemount at 5:00 P.M.
CLUB SPORTS
HIGH SCHOOL RUGBY
Rugby registration is open for our Girls and Boys high school teams.
Our Varsity Boys are looking to defend their State Championship, and are ranked 31st in the Nation in pre-season rankings. Our Varsity Girls program is up and coming, and we expect to challenge at the top in Minnesota this year in building up to our 2023 Scotland Tour.
WE NEED PLAYERS. No experience is necessary. We have many holes to fill and first-year players will get significant playing/starting time. In rugby, everybody plays, everybody carries the ball, and everybody tackles. Rugby suits all body shapes and sizes, and teaches explosiveness, decision-making, and agility. Rugby is the only spring sport that teaches safe and highly effective tackling to improve HS football player performance and to help avoid injury. We are an ISD 196 club sport, meaning Varsity players may earn their letter.
Practice begins on March 6th and the season runs through the end of the school year. More information, including registration links, may be found at https://www.eaasports.org/rugby.
