Brittany (Sargent) Hedberg's career journey...
My story isn’t the same as most. It doesn’t follow a neath path, yet here I am. I graduated from North High in 2010. Like many of my classmates, I started college in the fall of 2010. I attended St. Cloud State University in their athletic training program. I took some time off after my first year of college, working in the food service industry, and went back to school. In 2013, I attended Century College to study chemical dependency counseling. Due to a tragic death in the family that same year, I withdrew from Century College and returned to working in the food service industry.
I started out as a server and moved my way up in the club scene. I switched employers around 2012 and continued as a server. At the same time, I started training to become a bartender. My life outside of work also moved forward. After the birth of my 1st daughter I moved from bartending and started cooking for the same bar/restaurant. I worked as a cook for about two years before leaving and finding a better position at a golf course/event center. I continued my cooking there another year and a half.
At that point I decided I wanted to move back to the front of the clubhouse and start managing. I did about nine months of training under the manager at the time. I was fully promoted to restaurant manager in April, 2019. Around August of that year the food and beverage director we had was let go. I essentially took over the roll of both positions. It has been tough in this industry since spring of 2020. Once we get out of the pandemic I will be taking over a restaurant in Cottage Grove as the general manager.
It may have taken me longer to get to my current position of restaurant general manager than if I would have gone to college, but school isn’t for everyone. I knew with enough hard work and dedication to what I loved I would make it. It’s been one crazy ride over the last 10 years, but I wouldn’t change anything about it. Work hard and things will fall into place.
Daesha Littes-Glasgow Graduated From North: 2016
Currently I am an Early Childhood Educator at New Horizon Academy.
A year after I graduated from high school I come to the conclusion that college wasn't the best fit for me. I realized how much I enjoyed working with children after being employed for over 2 years at New Horizon Academy as a teacher's aide. I then decided to earn my CDA (Child Development Associate) and began the 120 hour training that lead me to the certification and title of Lead Teacher.
