Dear Friends

2023-2024 district calendar available
The 2023–2024 district calendar includes important dates for many school district events and activities, as well as information we must legally provide and information we feel will be important to you. Please note that the events in the multi-page calendar are accurate as of July 2023, but may have changed due to unforeseen circumstances and scheduling conflicts. Our websites and school newsletters are excellent ways for parents/guardians to stay informed of the most up-to-date information regarding events and activities.
- A pdf version of the 2023-2024 district calendar is available by clicking here.
- We are working hard to have the calendar printed and available for 2023-2024 start-up and meet-the-teacher events. Copies will be printed and will be made available to all district students, staff, and families.
- Other district calendar information, including a list of important dates and a single-page school year calendar, are available at www.sno.wednet.edu/calendar.
District offers Transition to Kindergarten and other early learning programs
NEW for 2023-2024 - Transition to Kindergarten pre-K program
Do you have a preschool-age child who will be eligible for kindergarten after September 2024 (Note: To enter kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before August 31)? Has it been a challenge for you to access a preschool program for your child? If so, the Snohomish School District's new Transition to Kindergarten pre-K program may be the place for your child to learn and grow!
Our new Transition to Kindergarten program:
- Serves 4- to 5-year-old students.
- Is a state-funded, free Monday through Friday full-day Transition to Kindergarten pre-K program.
- Serves children and families who demonstrate a need through the Transition to Kindergarten pre-K application and screening process.
To learn more and potentially register for Transition to Kindergarten, please fill out the district Preschool Inquiry Form at www.sno.wednet.edu/preschoolform. Upon completion of the form, a district enrollment specialist will be in touch!
Other district early learning programs
The Snohomish School District recognizes that equity starts at birth and that effective early learning provides a high leverage opportunity to build an empowering foundation for parent/guardian and school partnerships formed around readiness, safety, inclusivity, and creativity. We offer a number of other early learning programs, including ECEAP and Developmental Preschool.

Summer capital improvements happening across district
Voter approval of the district’s 2022 Replacement Levy for Technology, Safety and Facility Improvements has made a number of district capital improvement projects possible this summer! Thank you, voters!
This summer’s projects include new roof fascia at Cascade View Elementary; replacement of rooftop air handling units at Cascade View Elementary and Totem Falls Elementary; parking lot striping; a new roof on the Cathcart Elementary covered playground; and portable relocations and installations at Dutch Hill Elementary and Machias Elementary. In addition, work this summer continues on construction of a new modular district maintenance building that will replace the older portables that were demolished in 2021 due to structural and safety reasons. This 4,800 square foot modular building was built in Marysville and last week was delivered and assembled. When fully complete, it will include a mechanical and carpentry area, lock shop, offices, and a meeting space.
In addition, while many of us are enjoying our summer vacations, our district custodial, facilities, and maintenance team members have been hard at work during the summer months prepping our schools, grounds, and classrooms. Whether it be carpet cleaning, moving classrooms/furniture, floor waxing, painting, window washing, landscaping, power washing, changing HVAC filters, completing repairs, making sure fire/safety equipment is working/functional, cleaning classroom surfaces, or so much more, our district team works countless hours, including many behind-the-scenes, to make sure things are ready for the coming school year. Click here to see some photos posted to our district Facebook page of our our district custodial, facilities, and maintenance team members this summer. Thank you custodial, facilities, and maintenance team … we appreciate all you do!

Strategic Plan provides five-year roadmap
The 2022-2023 school year was marked by the development of the Snohomish School District Strategic Plan, which was formally adopted by the School Board at its June 28 meeting. This five-year roadmap brings intentionality to the everyday work of education, as it not only provides the opportunity to look forward, but also guides our steps along the way. It's summer fair time!
Students in our career and technical education (CTE) classrooms will soon take learning to a new level!
Glacier Peak High School’s (GPHS) animal science FFA students will travel throughout District 1 for hands-on skills competitions and sourcing, caring for and maintaining healthy livestock, then showcasing their learning at upcoming summer fairs and livestock shows. GPHS teacher Alisa Ashmon helps students find mentors, secure safe farm placements, source animals and visits them periodically throughout summer months as their learning progresses. For most students this is their first experience with large animal management and can influence their career choices and future plans.
Ashmon notes that our district’s partner farms support and mentor both FFA and 4H student projects in a way that is safe, in line with environmental and sustainable practices and is compassionate and humane.
“In a world full of feedlots and corporate farm systems we need to remind ourselves that small local farming practices support and build communities,” said Ashmon. “We are fortunate to live in such a magical part of the world. I want to thank Robin and Jodi Stebbins of SwineShire, Karl and Mandy Hereth of Springherd Farm, Eric Fritch of Chinook Farm (and Chinook Lumber) and Bob and Sarah Ricci of Bob’s Corn for their continued support of our student placements/project support and their dedication to safety, community, and sustainable farming practices. I also want to thank the families of these dedicated students for all they do to support their child’s veterinary goals and dreams. These projects take investments of time, money, and heart – thank you!”
GPHS animal science students will be showing swine and sheep and will be producing educational displays this year. Look for these students at the following fairs on the following days:
- Silvana Fair – June 29
- Stanwood Fair – August 4-5
- Evergreen State Fair (FFA/4H participate in the 1st half only) – August 21-27
